Can't pause LIVE tv on a 440HX-S

I have just bought a Pioneer 440HX & it won't pause live tv, Mi tv is a Humax 32" HD LCD about a year old, the 440 says "it cannot complete the operation now",
I've looked in the instruction book & it says "Pause Live TV only works with the built-in A.TV (analog) tuner. It does not work with the D.TV tuner or external inputs, what is the point of that there's on 5 channels on analogue.

Also it says not all TVs (Pause Live TV) support this feature, Check the instruction that came with your tv. don't know what to look for in the instructions.

In effect there is a "Live Pause" button on the remote which is useless, yet they advertise it.

Anyone else had this problem & are all HDD recorders the same, I know Sky+ & TiVo arn't though.

the "pause live TV" feature does not use the internal tuner, it records from the TV, whatever the TV is showing at the time. Your TV must support "AV Link" (whatever that is) and you must be using scart. I personally don't use scart anymore, I have ditched it for component

Anyway, what you want is "chase play" where you just hit the record button, go and make yourself a cup of tea, come back and go into the "disk navigator" and start playing from where you left off

Thanks, seems rather odd, do all HDD recorders do the same? I can't use componant because it's connected the my Sky HD box & my tv doesn't have a HDMI connection only DVI-D, which is daft

I'm not sure how other boxes do "pause live TV" but I agree the Pioneer way does seem a bit odd

Why don't you get a DVI-to-HDMI lead for the Sky HD box? so you can use the component output on your 440?

Pausing Live tv is not a feature found on many normal HDD recorders.
It mainly on PVR's like the Freeview boxes or Sky+.
To get Live pause on one of these, instead of hitting pause when you want to,hit record and the HDD will start and when you return you carry on viewing from where you left off

DVD/HDD recorders generally don't have Pause Live TV, but they can emulate it with Chase Play. Press Record at the point where you want to start the 'recording buffer' and then immediately press Play. (Or after 5 seconds at any rate, my Pio won't let you start playing immediately after starting recording).

What this does is to playback the recording as it's still being recorded. After pressing Play, you are no longer watching live TV but the recording. You can therefore pause and rewind at will.

I've got one but can't get any sound even when I connect the audio leads, all I get is the picture & also you can't alter much, the colour is too high on 60 it can't be changed
