Simon said on Extra last night that he thought Ray would have trouble next week. But that they have found one song that they thought he might be able to sing.

I do actually *recoils in horror at the memory*

So basically, Rod Stewart is the theme for next week, and it could be either a song he has killed (uh, covered...everytime I do this ) more recently. or one of the classics?

I'm a huge Rod fan, and a fan of "the standards" but the two don't go together somehow, although they sound better "live" than on CDs.

Most of his own stuff is so good, I wish he would stick to that.

Still not keen on this theme thing, fine when its something as broad as Motown, but Rod Stewart could be tough, and god knows what Ben will do if they have a disco week. I would expect an Elton John week and a Beatles week as well, both have a wide variety that can be adapted to most people.

EDIT: My money's on Louis to pick "Do ya think I'm sexy" for one of his groups, knowing Louis it will probably be the MacDonald Brothers.

Knowing Louis it probably will be something like that for the MacDonald Brothers.
There is supposed to be an Abba theme in a few weeks time too. That should prove to be interesting. Barry Manilow has also been asked to appear soon.

if anything Ray is going to find it the most difficult, Simon said himself that they have found it difficult to find a song for him. If anyone, this is Bens week definitely !

The McD Bros should do The Rhythm of My Heart and guarantee the Scottish vote...

Good suggestion. Doubt Louis will go with it though.

I am not looking forward to this. I don't like hardly anything Rod has done!

Does anyone know if it's true there's gonna be a Mariah Carey theme night and she's supposedly guest starring, I can't remember where I read it but I hope it's true cos I'm a big fan.

I think there should be a Songs From The Noughties theme because after all it's the Noughties industry these guys are hoping to slot into. I don't mind themes but the Motown theme wasn't fair on the Unconventionals and I'm sure there are a few people the Rod theme won't be fair on....I've also got a few great song ideas that are less likely to be used if there are themed weeks, unless the themes are more general.

Whenever people sing Mariah they usually end up murdering her songs ! It would be nice to see her do the show though, and teach them what its all about. Simon must be raking enough in off the phone lines to fork out for some triple A talent.

I usually only watch the auditions, but it looks like there'll be some good reasons to stick with the show a bit further this year.

That would be amazing having a Mariah night

I don't know if they'd do a Mariah night, they would probably go for a genre approach like they did with Lionel Richie. Although one thing about the theme weeks that I do like is that we get to see how different acts adjust to different themes and put their own style onto classics.

I agree about a "songs from the noughties" night, probably towards the end of the show would be best, its a wide range, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a contemporary song that fits if the act really does have the X Factor.

My money's on Ashley getting that one

Sadly knowing Louis I can see the Maccy D bros getting lumbered with the dreary and predictable 'Sailing'

Ben could obviously do any of them but my money's on something like 'Maggie May' or 'You wear it well', purely because he's the only one who could pull it off and it would leave some of the ballads available for the acts who can't do rock (i.e. just about all of them)

Rod Stewart has a HUGE song book going back 30+ years. There should be something to suit all of the acts if their mentors choose right.

I'd love to see Eaton Road do 'Handbags and Gladrags', loads of harmonies in that.

Well according to the Official Site, Ben is doing a song that he used to do with his band buts its a different music arrangement and Kerry, Nikitta, Dionne and Leonna all love the songs that have been given to them.
