Meeting Artists: Tips

Anyone ever got to meet the artist after a concert?

Anyone got any tips?

When I was 16 me and an (ex) friend snuck into a Suede soundcheck before we saw them play that night!!
Met them after the gig too - just a case of waiting outside the venue at the back entrance and hoping for the best.
Maybe get out of the venue while they are doing the encore and then you should have a good chance of seeing them.

Do they usually leave straight away? Are the back entrances of venues usually accessable to the pulic?

Thanks for the help!

Smaller venues it is relatively easier to get to the back entrance but venues like arenas have security guards stopping you from even entering the area.

Bands often have meets and greets/just want to chill to do after gigs so they don't leave straight away.

A tip from me is that if there is a security guard, chat to them and they may help you out. I had one who went to fetch a band member to come over to us.

I sound like such a stalker/fangirl.

As long as the venue isn't too big, shouldn't be too difficult. A friend and I were on the guest list for a "band" and we thought we were really lucky, but when we to the party in the bar afterwards, it was rammed, so we weren't too special afterall! We still met all of them and the support band, who we got on very well with!

If you go to gigs at the smaller club venues such as Dingwalls,The Borderline etc,the artist will often come back out to the bar for drinks afterwards and will chat with fans and sign cds.

Another thing to watch out for is in-store performances, where an act will play a twenty-odd minute set in a record store like HMV,Virgin, etc, and will sign cds afterwards. I've seen several of these.

Won't list all the acts I've met as many of them are non-mainstream who many members might not know, but among the mainstream acts I've met Katie Melua,Joss Stone,Nerina Pallot,KT Tunstall and The Dixie Chicks.

At small venues, find out where the stage door or equivalent is...! And be prepared to wait a long while Worked many times for me

A casual blagger would find a blag in this case hard. If you know the name of a band member or manager you're half way there, try to walk back-stage. When you get stopped act surprised. Then mention managers name and wait for manager to come. Then plead!
