1st X Factor Winner 164 in Album Charts
So, it really is the show that gets you to number 1!
Even his fans have to admit that now. 164 in the album charts is terrible. TV and radio plugging and lots of appearances and a tour, not to mention a tv advert. The single did even worse, and I have to say, thanks to really good backing vocals, it's a catchy song. I hope the money he won hasn't all been spent on this project and left him penniless. I wouldn't be surprised if the next "star" to go bankrupt is a certain Mr Brookstein! But, at least he's happy. Last edited by lizzyitus : 16-10-2006 at 13:48. |

He will no doubt try to claim that this is a victory but anyone with eyes, ears and sense can see through that. |

The money would have already been spent at the beginning on videos etc. I doubt he saw a minute fraction of that.

If people want real soul, they'll have bought Lemar or Luther!
I bought both and there's no way I could turn them off for a mediocre, also ran.

Isn't that the irony of The X Factor? They've never actually successfully launched a pop career with any longevity?

Despite being shi*e Shayne's album will probably reach the 500,000 mark, he needs to get his second album out by mid 2007, and it needs to be good, because his credibility is fading fast, and if its true that his next single is a Westlife cover, he might as well give it up now. Andy Abraham's first album went platinum, selling just over 300,000 copies, his new album is out in November. Journey South also went platinum, just under 400,000 albums sold, with a second, self written album due in early 2007 (prob for Mothers Day). Its too early too judge whether an X Factor act can achieve a long career, but, acts like G4, Journey South, and possibly Shayne aren't finished yet. (though Shayne is close) |

Haven't heard of Shayne in a while, I think they deliberately mismanage the winner so that they can eventually drop them once the next series comes on. Imagine the Christmas charts with Shayne at number one and this years x factor winner at number two, a situation that would displease Simon Cowell and something they can't take a chance with.

Wasn't this thread just a bit unnecessary considering there is already a thread about SB's sales where people can have a gloat? Not an ardent Steve fan, I liked him and Rowetta first season but the spite in here leaves a nasty taste.
Good luck to him I say. |

Good luck to him I say. I also liked Steve & Rowetta from the first series. Hated some of the gloating threads about Rowetta's album sales, but I have been pleasantly surprised that Rowetta has been in constant demand since the show, and that Steve has done his own thing since winning. If you're reading this, Rowetta, good luck for Children In Need. You're the only contestant that the public would want to see on that show. Great inspiration to single mothers and older women.

Are you a single mother over 38?
I think the girl's done good. Her daughter started university last week. Not bad for a mad woman with a violent past. Good luck to her, and Children In Need is a great charity. |

Not a fan of Brookstein at all, but I must admit I find it rather strange that people can get so much joy about the failure of a realty tv contestant from a show that ended 2 years ago. How does it enrich one's life?

I started a thread a while back regarding what would it take for the next XFactor winner to stay at the top. I really do wonder what it would take, it certainly isn't a bad rapour with fans or 'use to be fans' as it was in my case, and I'm sure with many others too! A resolution is required here to keep that XFactor Winner staying at the top or in the music charts at least!!

It is sad, I agree, but fans of his and he himself love to watch others downfall, it's only fair on an X Factor site to discuss the XF1 winner's fate.

![]() It doesn't exactly enrich ones life, what it does is justifies the simple fact of how Brookstein and his local fans have gloated at how other ex Contestants have possibly failed in the charts or, Steve having constant digs about the XFactor Show itself. It really doesn't take an expert to realise just how much of an impact this has had prior to him releasing any such albums or singles. And you know how the saying goes.....what goes round comes round. A bold statement, but true. |

Were you around when Steve's fans did the same about other acts?
Didn't hear you complaining then, or did I miss it Also we're on XF year 3, it's interesting to see how well or not the first winner has done - is it not? |

![]() from nobody - to somebody - to nobody again it's the British way to build someone up and then break them back down - only we're not normally helped by the celebrity. every time i see posters like susann defend him though i can't help thinking that he'd much rather he had our support instead of hers. This site is about the X Factor.
When the winner has number 1s it will be discussed. When they get to 164, it will be discussed. We vote, we pay, we can discuss, can't we? Is it wrong? |
