I heard a rumour.......

Kerry has the voice of the late Karen Carpenter and is sought after with plenty of offers by record companys......with or without the XFactor Kerry will no doubt flourish in the near future if this rumour is anything to go by. A reliable friend happened to hear it mentioned on a well-known radio station.

Good luck to her I say.
Absolutely

Actually now you mention it, it does sound a bit like Karen. Good luck to her.

Y'know, one of the worst aspects of this current series is the overhyping of mediocre or non-existent talent by the judges.

Anyone familiar with Karen Carpenter's recordings would not confuse Kerry's weak vocal renderings with that of a legendary singer. There is no comparison.

Louie probably had it right on Saturday when he said she sounded like "Carly Carpenter," whoever that is.

These people can barely carry a tune much less eclipse established talents. Pu-leaze.

Although I'm one of those who's a fan of Kerry's voice I've heard nothing so far to suggest she has anything remotely approaching the range (both in terms of octaves and emotions) of the inimitable Karen Carpenter.

I'd far prefer to enjoy her in her own right than as a watered down version of someone else

Although not a great fan of the Carpenters, Karen Carpenter had a purity in her voice that is totally lacking in Kerry's voice. That is not a criticism of Kerry as very few singers do have that gift.

There was something very special about Karen Carpenters voice, unfortunately for Kerry, there is nothing special about hers.

Fair comment. It's good to be known for one's own voice rather than sounding like another.

Still wish her all the best regardless.

Come to think of it, I'm sure you're right about Karen Carpenter having that purity as you put it, in her voice. There is no imitation anywhere else like it or may never have.

Well I'm being honest here, at the time when I heard her perform on Saturday, I genuinely thought that her singing voice sounded like Karen Carpenter.

I'm not saying that she displayed the vocal range of Karen Carpenter or anything, it's just that Karen Carpenter sprang to mind when I heard the tone of her singing voice.

And then Louis said the same thing when the judges offered their comments.

There is probably a lot of truth that the choice of song was a safe one so didn't light everybody's fire...but I do think that she sang well, if not a song that stretched her vocal talents.

But I do think that there are similarities between her singing voice and Karen Carpenter's.
Well I noticed it anyway, and if others did too then there must be some truth in it.

I do think that she is one of the acts that does show true potential and was one of a handful of acts who displayed an ability to hold a tune.

I do think that she was one of the best singers last Saturday and I would be interested to see how she sings in future shows.

Totally disagree with this. IMO I would have placed her in bottom couple. She may not have sung out of tune, but there was nothing special at all about her voice or performance. It was totally boring and lacked any emotion or feeling.

Karen Carpenter was a brilliant vocalist, and I'm not a fan of the Carpenters. Nothing of Kerrys performance reminded me of Karen Carpenter. Overall it was boring and thankfully forgettable, so it will be a clean slate from me for next week.

Kerry has already had a record deal, with Polygram - separate to her eurovision entry. She's had lots of chances - she's just not very good.

It's an insult to Karen Carpenter, she had one of the best female singing voices ever.

In comparison, Kerry has a weak voice and IMO she would never have got to the finals of this competition if she had been able-bodied.

That is a negative response I feel. To say a compliment to Karen Carpenters voice would be more accurate.
