Just thought i'd start a thread about UFC, it will probably sink without a trace but what the hell.
I think it will wipe boxing off the map over the next decade.

Boxing isnt half as popular as it was 10 years ago, there's no stand out stars anymore, boxing is on a slipery slope.

UFC is definitely growing. I watch it every now and again, but I can't say I look out for it.

I did enjoy Shamrock-Ortiz 3 though.

UFC is too brutal and violent for a mainstream audience. It will remain a niche "sport".

Its all changed since the early days UFC, its not that brutal anymore, boxing hands out the same sort of punnishment.

It's still a matter of perception. Two half-naked men rolling around on the canval, closely locked together, squeezing and pounding away at each other, will find it very difficult to attract a mainstream audience the same way boxing will, unless they through some amazing fluke could produce a crossover superstar that can transcend the "sport" the way wrestling has sometimes managed to do with some of their high profile steroid ballerinas.

I wanted Shamrock to win, but I don't really know enough of Ortiz to dislike him. I kind of got into it via TUF3, and a friend of mine is obsessed with it so I've caught a few of them over the years, with people like Abbott, Severn, Franklin, Gracie, Leopoldo, etc.

Ken Shamrock is a joke, I really couldn't see the point of 3, it was just another re-run of their second fight, Shamrock lying on the floor begging the ref to step in.

Tito always looks impressive against cr@p opponents, but can't really cut it with anyone that can give him pain. Heck Forrest Griffin stood toe to toe with him, Chuck will wipe the floor with him. Should be fun though.

So Rich Franklins nose looked impressive after Silvia's knee didn't it. To be honest Franklin has struck me as being on the lazy side from his appearances on TUF, and I think he paid for that at Unstoppable - hah, well named.

It was great, i watched silva pick apart leben and thought to myself this guy is class, i did'nt expect him to overpower franklin so easily. Its good news really because now the middle weight class will be a bit more competitive.

I think the shamrock-ortiz fight was a bit of a pay day for his retirement. The outcome was obvious, shamrock is built for middleweight and ortiz cuts a lot of weight just to get to light heavyweight(205). When ortiz fights the best (coture and liddell) he shows he's not in the same class.

I have been watching UFC since the video's were first released here in 1994 and only found out about the UFC when the tabloids went ballistic over it.

I have yet to watch UFC 64 but after watching Shamrock/Ortiz III, I am glad Ken has finally decided to call it a day. I don't think he has beaten anyone of note in the last three years (exception being Kimo, but then he is rather washed up himself) and his attitude in TUF3 left a lot to be desired. Ortiz used to get on my nerves until TUF3 where he had a good attitude on him and cared about the guys he was training, something different to Ken. Although he is a tough fighter, I think Ortiz will get his backside handed to him on a plate by Chuck Liddell.

I would like to see more competition in the heavyweight division as I don't rate Tim Sylvia that much. In contrast, Matt Hughes is phenominal and a match between him and Georges St Pierre will be fantastic.

As for the debate about MMA becoming mainstream, well shows like The Ultimate Fighter have gained a lot of positive opinions on mixed martial arts and there are more rules in regards to safety for the fighters sake, with rounds and weight limits, unlike the early days of UFC where you had one round of 30 minutes and no gloves.

George St Pierre is quality, he will be hughes toughest fight yet. If BJ Penn's condition was better he would be champ now, i really think GSP will beat hughes.
I dont rate sylvia, Arlovski is a much better fighter.
If you get the chance to watch the UFC 64 highlights just watch the main event, silva really looks top class.

Sometimes there is a lot of blood, but that much blood could flow from a small cut, and as long as the blood does'nt flow into the eye its ok.
The UFC has the same doctors and officials as the boxing association. If the cut is bad the fight is stopped, just like boxing (where i have seen some mashed up faces).
It is no more brutal than boxing, maybe in the early days of UFC it was brutal but things have moved on.

much prefer boxing as a sport, although the ufc stuff is perhaps the closest thing to an out and out fight, but will people pay to watch something they can see for free every weekend in any given town centre? sometimes watch 'now is the time' kickboxing, but thats really for a glimpse of tamsin lucia khan, rather than the bouts tbh.

Its a bit more technical than friday night fights. Sometimes you get swingers but its mixed martial arts. Some martial arts takes years to master.
Boxing used to be exciting but there arent many stand out fighters anymore, calzaghe perhaps.
Some bouts in boxing drag on for 12 rounds with hardly any punches being thrown and you've just payed £15 for it. Its a sinking ship

I love the UFC, and cant wait for Arlowski to regain his crown.
The ortiz-Shamrock series was good viewing, and I am loving UF4, hope matt serra wins.

Me too, matt serra has been comical all through the series, neither will beat GSP (when he beats hughes at UFC65), but he'll get a few quid and a few more fights in the UFC, in the future lets hope arlowski gets another shot at the title and chuck knocks ortiz out again.

I love UFC!! I can't wait until December for the Tito & Chuck fight (I love both of them but I want Chuck to win, I think he will too!)

Does anyone know if Mike Bisping has fought since the last reality show? I've seen the other guys fight but haven't heard from him and wasn't sure if I'd missed it!

Has anyone seen the boxing match between Tito and Dana White that they referred to after the Tito/Ken fight? I'd like to see that but they said it was internet only?!

Bisping have'nt had a fight in the UFC yet, not quite sure why, maybe he's injured.
The Tito vs Dana boxing match was meant to have taken place on the 20th of OCT but i've search everywhere and cannot find the result, maybe it got called off.( it would be funny is Tito got knocked out by his boss.
