Just to let everyone know after a couple of emails back and forth with andrew laughlin of DS it seems that, the way he understands it, is that the UFC 101 + 102 are not "FREE" as in they will be shown unscrambled on ESPN, they are free as in they will be part of the normal ESPN programming and NOT PPV but you WILL need to subscribe to ESPN to view them, although he does say they MAY be free on the UFC website, Pete.

I think some platforms are showing ESPN free for August.

ESPN via Top Up TV hopefully will be 24/7. They are showing 101 at 3am-6am Sunday morning live (Setanta used to cut off at 5am though). The replyay Monday night is showing as 2hours, so must be edited.

Hey guys, this is my first post here.

UFC 101 will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN HD. You have to subscribe to the channel in order to watch the show. Once you have subscribed, the first month should be free. The countdown is also showing this week.

According to the UFC UK president, ESPN have just done a deal with freeview and the first month will be free on the platform. He posted the message on his twitter page earlier and also mentioned that they are in the process of working on bringing the WEC to UK TV.

He also mentioned that the tickets for UFC 105 in Manchester are "on sale soon".

Is there a reason that ESPN does not yet list UFC101 on its programming yet, then? I've subscribed to ESPN, but cannot find any reference to UFC on the channel itself.

UFC 101 is live on ESPN Saturday night at 3am (Sunday morning if anyone being picky), repeated Monday 10th at 10pm according to tv.sky.com listings and TUTV EPG.

If you are watching via TUTV, be prepared to be frustrated, as the Saturday showing is scheduled to cut off at 5am, an hour before the event will finish. The repeat is also only 2 hrs long, so will be heavily edited. No other planned (full 3hr) repeat as yet. The countdown show is being advertised as showing on Friday night at 10pm, with UFC All Access (30 min showcase of a fighter's training methods etc) on at midnight the same day and 11:30 pm Sunday.

ESPN's website listings are wrong, they seem to be out by a day or so as UFC is showing as airing 24hrs before it happens (?).

I think they haven't fully updated the epg yet, give it a day or 2.

Yes, you were right. They've updated the EPG now and UFC is included.

Anderson Silva has told UFC Dana White that he can forget about trying to match him up with UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

White told the post-UFC 101 press conference that he could “make that fight happen”, but Silva started shaking his head immediately.

“These two are friends but it is not about friendship, it is about competing to find out who is the best,” said White. “It is no different to a basketball game or a football game.

"If Anderson gets to that point where he starts taking out 205-pounders, I promise you I can make that fight happen.”

Silva butted in with an immediate refusal.

“Lyoto is my friend, he is my brother and there is no way that fight will happen,” he said, adding with a laugh, “Not just because he is my friend but because he would be a big problem for me.”

White just smiled as Silva’s words were translated, but the UFC is notoriously short with fighters who do not wish to fight their friends or team mates and there is a potential White/Silva conflict down the road.

The UFC president also took the time to repeat his opposition to Silva facing former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr.

“I just don’t see the point,” he told reporters.

However, any such disputes between White and his middleweight champion are in the future. For now, Silva has rehabilitated his image with fans who had rounded on him after has last two uninspiring performances.
