I agree that Cro Cop is finished. Nogueira still has some value, but he isn't title contender anymore.

Are UFC supposed to be going back to Japan?

cro cop did alright, just wish hed let loose more

bisping boxed well but was never comfortable enough to unleash on silva, something silva did do in fits and bursts and it won him the fight, bisping needs to work on his GNP,can still b a force though

cain looked good, still think mir would take him though

besides KO jardine/bader was boring, something thats happening alot on ufc mid cards in last 3-4 months

loved george satororoporroris though! hes a lightweight frank mir!

Not that I know of. I think the reluctance to runa show in Japan is you can lose a whole lot of money running shows there.

The fight business in Japan is on a downturn. The UFC would be running shows without any Japanese star names.

Not to mention running shows in Japan means having to deal with shady characters. Guys who run with the Yakuza. The UFC dont wanna do this.

Also the UFC dont have a great tv deal in Japan so they would be running a show when a lot of people dont even know what it is.

Akiyama came out and said he wanted to fight Wanderlei in Japan so thats how the rumors started. It is never gonna happen though.

Like you said, UFC in Japan is a non starter. Akiyama is a heel in Japan so they couldnt even use him as the Japanese ace. They have Gomi but his credibilty and popularity is not what it was!

The TV deal with WOWOW gives UFC little coverage. They will not support a UFC Japanese event.

Anyone going to BAMMA 3 in Birmingham in May? Alex Reid is fighting in the main event.

China and India are the two next targets for UFC according to Dana.

Josh Barnett finally in Dream. This is good for him and I guess Dream will still allow him to do his Pro-Wrestling bookings. Well done Josh!

Quote:
“MMA Weekly reports that Josh Barnett has signed a contract with DREAM.

For weeks there have been rumors that Barnett would be apart of DREAM's March 22nd show, though the Japanese promotion has struggled to find an opponent for Josh. The fight was reportedly offered to Antonio Silva and Tim Sylvia who both turned it down. Antonio passed in hopes of a fight in Strikeforce this May (it was just announced that Silva will fight Andrei Arlovski) while Sylvia's status is up in the air as he is connected to two other fights in late March.

Barnett has been in limbo since failing a pre-fight steroid test in August of 2009. That positive test caused the Affliction: Trilogy fight card to fall apart and the promotion to close shop. Josh announced that he planned to appeal the test though the hearing has been delayed four times.

No word on a possible opponent for Barnett thought Pedro Rizzo, Jeff Monson and Aleksander Emelianenko are available while DREAM has Sergei Kharitonov under contract.”

This is a joke

41-year-old boxing champ James Toney signs multi-fight agreement with UFC

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Mar 03, 2010 at 4:50 pm ET

Sometimes trash talkers get what they want.

After berating UFC president Dana White on several media outlets in recent months, 41-year-old boxing champion James Toney (72-6 Boxing, 0-0 MMA) has reportedly signed a multi-fight agreement with the Las Vegas-based promotion.

The report was issued Tuesday by FiveOuncesOfPain.com citing sources close to negotiations, and MMAFighting.com's Mike Chiappetta has since confirmed the deal after speaking to White.

Toney, the current NABO and IBA heavyweight champion, pitched himself to White before cameras following UFC 108 in January and afterward blasted the UFC president for what he considered a "laughable" offer to fight in the octagon.

Ever since, Toney has taken every opportunity to challenge White for a contract.

"Dana White is a straight up ho!" Toney told Fighthype.com this past week. "He makes me a five-fight offer for chump change and said I can't box anymore if I accept it. He must have lost his damn mind."

It appears talks have brightened considerably since then.

At least one UFC fighter will welcome Toney into the cage.

"I think a lot of people would pay to see that," UFC heavyweight contender and "The Ultimate Fighter 10" winner Roy Nelson recently told Steve Cofield of Yahoo! Sports.

A timetable for Toney's debut is unknown at the time of this writing. Requests to the UFC for comment by MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) were not immediately answered.

The 41-year-old Toney's most recent fight was this past September when he defeated Matthew Greer by TKO in a boxing match. Prior to that, he defeated Fres Oquendo for the vacant NABO and IBA heavyweight belts.

Wrestling Observer says the only reason UFC signed Tovey was because Dana was worried a Tovey vs Herschel Walker fight might get a good rating on CBS for Strikeforce and UFC didn't want that to happen. It's apparently a non exclusive contract, meaning Tovey can still box, and there's no way UFC would have offered him that if they had any hope at all for him in UFC.

Not interesting at all. James Toney was a gifted boxer. However in 2010 he is an overweight ex champion chasing paydays.

This is no less than a freakshow signing than the Tim Sylvia v Ray Mercer fight (which Dana white called a disgrace). Toney is a known drug cheat and isnt even a top 50 HW anymore.

According to the wrestling observer, now there's apparently open warfare between UFC and Strikeforce, with UFC saying they are holding a show, broadcast on Spike, on April 17th, the same day Strikeforce have a show on CBS headlined by Dan Henderson v Jake Shields. No fights are known for the UFC show, except Matt Serra v Mike Swick is likely.

This is a guess, but I'd imagine UFC may want James Tovey vs Kimbo Slice to be the main event of that show.

Dana quote
Quote:
““You won’t see a Silva versus Jones fight while Silva is under contract with me,” White said Tuesday. “I don’t want to say anything bad about Roy Jones, I like Roy Jones and was a fan of his, but he mattered like fifteen years ago. He’s not anywhere near the best boxer in the world. He must’ve spent all his money.”

“I could do it, make it huge, make money, but I could have done a fight like this when we were bleeding money [in the early 2000s],” White said. “The fight would make some money, but it hurts MMA in the long term. We don’t do that because we love the sport. That’s a Pride or K-1 matchup. It’s not what we do.” – Dana White”

Not my words, Dana White's.

I am all for seeing a Boxer compete in MMA. However I mean a boxer who is still in actual shape and who could compete at the top level in boxing first and foremost. James Toney is a fat old man.

Who Tovey is going to fight is a bit of an issue as well, as you'd assume there is no way the Nevada State Athletic Commission will let a guy who is 0-0 in MMA fight potential UFC opponents like Randy Couture or Crocop who have tons of experience.

Hmm, shenanigans today, with Sherdog.com and MMA junkie.com reporting Chuck Liddell vs Rich Franklin in June and that Tito Ortiz gets kicked off TUF 11. Dana White then denied it and said they're doing Randy Couture vs Rich Franklin in June, but sherdog is standing by the original story.

'mconfused about the coverage of this weekends 'UFC live' aswell. Will probly ust find a stream to be safe.....

Couple weeks of good fightin' to be watched though....GSP vs Dan Hardy I'm looking forward to I fear GSP is leagues above anyone near him and Hardy is facing a beatdown but I'm willing him to win....both fighters make for good watchin.

Theres the Carwin fight too, I really wanted to see Carwin Vs Lesnar as I predicted a bit of a surprise for the big albino gorilla.

Also the Dragon and shogun face off again soon, last match was well dubious judging, I used to think the dragon was untouchable before that bout, afterwards I had newfound respect for shogun and was spitting feathers about the ufc judging policy and vowing to never watch it again.

@ goodkarma84 and mathertron

It wasn't on yesterdays EPG update for Top Up TV boxes, but I suspect the espn Guide is more reliable. Its also been added to the banner on the top of the ESPN UK webpage, so I hope its own website is correct. With Primetime (hopefully new episode covering Hardy vs GSP fight) before ti and MMA live, it will be a nice night in! Just a shame I got work in the morning
