I think the point is Randy didnt prove anything. Coture did what was expected. He did what any trained MMA fighter should do vs a boxer. It was no surprise or how the fight went down.

Only an idiot would of believed Toney had any sort of chance.

There has been some cross over between K-1 and MMA, especially in Japan. Out of the big stars, Sammy Shilts has quite a long MMA record and has fought and won in UFC.

More recently Overeem has had sucess in K-1 include a 2008 win over K-1 world champion Badr Hari, there was suppose to be a MMA match between them but that was never going to happen. I believe Overeem has said that he really wants to fight in the K-1 world grand Prix again this year.

True but Overeem didnt go into K-1 with no kickboxing training. He trained in Holland (where many argue is the best place to train) and become a very accomplished striker.

He actually did fight Hari again last year and got destroyed.

Overeem wants to fight in the K-1 Grand Prix as he gets more money from K-1 than he does from strikeforce. Strikeforce have a problem as they dont actually control what there champion does. Overeem will always pick K-1 first as thats where his biggest pay days are.

If Fedor or Brock Lesner for instance fought in K-1 as they are now I would think they would get blasted in 1 round.

Hope UFC events pick up soon. UFC 118 was the worst I've ever witnessed. Toney vs Couture was a joke of a fight that never should have been sanctioned. As for Penn vs Edgar, well Penn looked totally disinterested in the fight.

Yeah, I agree it wasnt the best event. the uk based one (120?) will always go off with a bang though. I've yet yo see a rubbish ufc that has been hosted over here....

118 was always set to be a quiet one, with the fairly lightweight matches and the token randy toney thing that was always gonna go one way.

The card really needed a striker's matchup but Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara was moved after they both were injured.

That fight is scheduled for 122 now.

Toney is laughing all the way to Bank:

Quote:
“James Toney made an embarrassing foray into MMA this past weekend at UFC 118, lasting a mere three minutes and 19 seconds before tapping out to Randy Couture's arm-triangle choke. Laugh all you want about "Lights Out" tapping before having his lights turned out, but Toney is laughing all the way to the bank. Toney pocketed $500,000 for his MMA debut according to figures released by the Massachussets State Athletic Commission.”

So does that mean five USA won't be showing it either presumably, I know ESPN had the 1st showing then five USA a few days later presumably sky won't want that?

As long as Eric Esch doesn't get a contract it should be fine.

The man is ridiculous. When he's knocked to the ground he can't flex enough to stand up and begins writhing on the floor like a beached whale.

His fight with Pudzianowski should be interesting as both will get gassed quick, and both are fairly strong. My money would be on Esch as long as he doesn't beach himself.

The information has disappeared from the UFC schedule page: http://uk.ufc.com/schedule/all/tv It was there earlier. Hmm.

I remember when it used to be shown on Bravo a few days after airing in the USA, there again that was back in the day when Bravo also showed the PPV's F.O.C.

Not sure if i can wait 6 days after for Sky Sports to show it, will have to get the epiosdes by other means.

That's when I first started watching TUF because it was on Bravo as I didn't and still don't have any of the subscription sports channels.

Clever move by Sky. They can use it to try and drive more Subscriptions to ESPN. Get people watching TUF and then tell them they need ESPN to watch the PPV.

I agree.

I also see ESPN have a Free View weekend all this weekend with some programs called ' UFC - Fight of the Night ' starting at 9.45pm tomorrow night.

I think all UFC events will end up on Sky.

Probably the top 2 or 3 US events on PPV, plus any UK or German events that are on here at a reasonable time. The rest on normal Sky Sports.

Sky is so much more high profile here than ESPN. It would do wonders for UFC to have Bisping, Hardy, Hathaway etc on billboards alongside other sports stars featured on Sky.

Unfortunately I suspect your right it will go that way eventually but if the events were mostly PPV I don't think it would do the sport or those fighters any favours as only the die hard fans would be will to pay £15 extra an event. They would be better off just putting them on the normal sky sports channels first, not that it would help me as I don't subscribe to any sports channels.

hopefully if they even try to stick it on ppv, people will have the common-sense not to pay it. which would hopefully kill it as an idea. however no doubt there will be a bunch of mad people that think its worth the price hike.

I doubt it'd would be worth their while putting anything on PPV unless it's a Brit getting a title shot in the UK. I'd think it unlikely they could sell the shows that are on at 3am till 6am UK time on PPV, as most people wouldn't watch it live and would likely know where to get it free from the next day.

I think Sky would def want to put the European shows on PPV. I think the fallout last time was because sky wanted a say in the production of the shows.

UFC being on sky would be better for them just cos Sky would push it all over SSN and the UFC fighters would get a lot more exposure.

Josh Barnett has signed with strikeforce. Good signing for them. Barnett v Fedor may now finally happen!!
