So does that mean five USA won't be showing it either presumably, I know ESPN had the 1st showing then five USA a few days later presumably sky won't want that?
![]() Had a reply back from Five today, as expected they do not have any broadcast rights for TUF12. ![]() Oh well looks like I won't be watching it this time. |

Where has that come from? At this point the fight means very little. I know they are 1-1 but Penn is strugging and Hughes is just plain old.

No it's not the main event. Rampage vs. Machida is.
Hughes has won his last 3 (Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie, Ricardo Almeida) so he may not be done just yet. |

Grrrr....Pearson was doing so well against Miller and then got caught with some vicious shots and then choked out. He's going to be a very good fighter.
Nailed my Oliveira pick but WTF was up with Palhares? He claimed Marquardt greased his leg in the middle of the fight and got knocked out! The commission confirmed he didn't grease anything and that was just a failed heel hook attempt. Great night of fights. |

According to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd, Chael Sonnen has been notified that he failed post-fight drug screening following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117, which was held Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. UFC must be real relieved that Anderson won that fight now. What happens to a rematch now? Does Dana White try and brush this under the carpet like he did with Sean Sherk or does Sonnen get the doghouse treatment?“[Sonnen] received his notice yesterday,” Dodd told Sherdog.com shortly after the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora boxing match ended Saturday night in Los Angeles. In a conversation the day before, Dodd declined to comment on the situation, other than answering that all fighters from UFC 117 had passed drugs-of-abuse scans, but that the commission was still waiting on performance-enhancing drug screens from the event. Dodd did not state which banned substance was red-flagged, but with a clean drugs-of-abuse scan it is clear the positive test was for a performance-enhancing substance. The last major UFC banned-substance case in the state centered on UFC 73’s lightweight title match, which saw both competitors -- Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca -- test positive for PEDs. Both fighters were suspended for one year and fined, though Sherk appealed and had his suspension shortened to six months. Sonnen is staring at a long layoff if he elects not to appeal or is denied. He was scheduled to rematch Silva Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, but that fight may be delayed or scrapped in light of these allegations. Text messages to Sonnen went unreturned. His manager Matt Lindland told Sherdog.com that he was cornering a fighter on the East Coast and had no knowledge of the positive test results. Silva’s manager Ed Soares, who engaged in some heated exchanges via the media in the build up to the fight, was stunned when asked for his reaction. “If it’s true, I feel really bad for him,” said Soares. “I know he did it to himself but it is really sad, he put on such a great performance that night. It is just a shame it will be tarnished.” Suppose Belfort will step in for the Feb date. Sonnen u idiot. The tests are not even random and he still managed to fcuk his cycle up. |

Dave Meltzer, who is yahoo!'s MMA reporter, says drug testing in MMA is a joke as the fighters know well in advance when they are going to get tested, and they can get self test kits so they know how long certain substances will stay in their systems for. He said he thinks about 50% of top MMA fighters are on something or other and Sonnen was likely just unlucky in that something took longer to leave his system than he must have anticipated.
It's somewhat depressing, he said the state athletic commissions simply don't have the cash to do random testing. |

Its not just that the state commissions cant afford to do random testing its the fact that I dont thin the sport would want it. I think Dana White is more than content with how testing is done are right now. Random testing would see many fighters caught as many would still use as they believe with certain cleansers tests can be beaten. Quote:
"Ok so sounds like it's confirmed that Sonnen failed drug test when he fought Silva. Apparently he was taking meds 4 flu n that made positive" I swear this is a common excuse with athletes who fail drug tests. Also Marquardt failed a drug test after his UFC debut against Ivan Salaverry.

More details are coming out as to the nature of Chael Sonnen's failed performance enhancing drug test from UFC 117. According to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd revealed that Sonnen tested positive for a "natural steroid" in a pre-fight screening. He faces a one year suspension and a fine of $2,500 for the failed test, and he has 30 days to appeal the suspension. The last major steroid suspension for a UFC title level fighter came when both Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca failed their steroid tests in 2007. Sherk successfully reduced his suspension to six months on appeal, but Sonnen still has yet to make any comment on the situation. The UFC appears to be moving forward without Sonnen in the immediate rematch against Anderson Silva, as they announced on Monday that the UFC 122 main event between Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami will determine a #1 contender for Silva's Championship. Penick's Analysis: There were rumors that it could have been some type of flu medication that popped the test; but if he was taking a flu medication that contained any type of steroid that's something that needed to be disclosed well ahead of time. It's again a really disappointing situation, because one of the best fights of the year is now tainted with this failed test. The UFC has now lost a massively lucrative rematch, and even if Sonnen successfully gets the suspension reduced should he choose to appeal, the stain of this positive test will take fan interest out of the rematch as well. |

Middleweight contender Chael Sonnen tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone following an Aug. 7 UFC championship fight against titleholder Anderson Silva, the California State Athletic Commission informed SI.com on Monday. lol @ knowing u will get busted beforehand.
Sonnen, 33, of West Linn, Ore., was apparently concerned enough about the possibility that he would render a positive test that he told CSAC executive director George Dodd he used an illegal substance leading up to the biggest fight of his life. "He only indicated that he was taking it but he never indicated why," Dodd said of a conversation he and Sonnen shared during drug testing conducted by the state a day prior to the fight in Oakland. Sonnen "just let me know he was taking [something] and that's when I called over an inspector to get it documented. But when you do take it you still have to show a medical reason." According to Dodd, Sonnen wrote on a pre-fight drug screening form that he used "testosterone." Sonnen also indicated the manner in which he ingested the drug, though Dodd declined to answer whether that was in pill or injectable form. Despite making the CSAC aware that he'd taken a banned substance, the commission could not prevent Sonnen from competing because of Rule 303 C in its regulations. "A positive test which has been confirmed by a laboratory utilized by the commission ... shall be used as conclusive evidence of a violation of the subsection," Dodd said. "We have to have confirmation from a labratory before we can say 'yay' or 'nay.' "Remember, we don't know what levels or anything else he was going to be tested for when the results came back. What happens if they were at normal levels? If his levels were normal, and you actually didn't have a reason why, then we actually stopped somebody from earning a living. Health and safety is our No. 1 priority but you have to weigh everything. And our rules do say you have to have confirmation from a laboratory. "It was just a weird situation. But you follow what your rules and guidelines tell you to do, and that's what they told us to do." As reported by Sherdog.com over the weekend, Sonnen was notified Friday of his positive test. The CSAC first received results on Sept. 2 and waited for confirmation of a second sample tested at the World Anti-Doping Agency affiliated UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory before informing Sonnen. Per CSAC guidelines, Sonnen has 30 days to file an appeal with the state. On Tuesday, MMAFighting.com quoted Sonnen's manager Mike Roberts as saying the fighter would file a formal appeal with California. The next CSAC commission meeting is scheduled for Dec. 2 in Sacramento, Calif. If Sonnen does not file an appeal, he will be subject to an automatic one-year suspension and $2,500 fine. Though Sonnen mentioned using testosterone, the veteran mixed martial artist failed to note it on a pre-fight questionnaire with commission doctors or provide documentation about the use of testosterone in a medical context, according to Dodd. "Whenever you're taking an enhancing drug you have to let the commission know prior to even taking the test that you're taking, and what the medical reasons are why you're taking the drug," Dodd said. "That way we can verify with our commission doctors that the reason you're taking that is the reason you should be on that type of drug. You can't just come in and say, 'Hey, I'm taking this,' and think that's going to get you off." The eight-year MMA veteran received an immense amount of press leading up to his fight against Silva because of his willingness to make outlandish comments, including several regarded as controversial. Speaking of American cyclist Lance Armstrong, Sonnen suggested Armstrong's bout against testicular cancer was a direct result of his cheating and using illegal drugs. Armstrong has fought off numerous allegations that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs, and has not yet yielded a positive test. The fight between Silva and Sonnen (24-11-1) on Aug. 7 was one of the year's best. Sonnen dominated Silva, a pound-for-pound top-ranked fighter and MMA's No. 1 middleweight since 2006, over the course of four rounds. Sonnen appeared well on his way to taking the UFC title when Silva stunned the wrestler, who competed collegiately at the University of Oregon, with a triangle choke submission at 3:10 of Round 5. Because of Sonnen's ability to sell a fight that turned out to be extremely competitive, Silva-Sonnen captivated not only close watchers of mixed martial arts but casual viewers as well. UFC officials planned to capitalize off the middleweights' initial encounter by scheduling an immediate rematch for Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. That bout is now in jeopardy. Sonnen has not responded to repeated requests for comment by SI.com. He is expected to make his first public statements Thursday on ESPN2's "MMA Live." It's now Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort on January 1st for the title, and Nate Marquardt vs Yushin Okami on 13th November for the number one contender spot.

This absolutely has to do with Sonnen being suspended. Ugh. Marquardt/Okami isn't "a big fight that should be on PPV put on free TV".
Come on Dana, you promised to make up for 112! |

UFC 119 is the worst card I've ever seen from start to finish.
Sherk shouldn't have won, Dunham was robbed. Bader won despite barely doing anything with his takedowns after the impressive 1st round, and CroCop/Mir was awful. Luckily the 4 prelims I saw prior to this were awesome. |

Ouch for the people in America who had to pay for that. A grand total of one good fight on the main card. Thank the baby Jesus Mir vs Cro Cop had a finish, but it was still a terrible terrible match, Joe Rogan even apologized for the accursed thing at one point.
Anyone yet to watch, you'll be needing the fast forward button. A lot. |

I think it will wipe boxing off the map over the next decade. |
