Sonnen always gives his all though, yes he gets the fights he gets because of his trash talk but then Dana knows that he can sell a fight so thats why he keeps getting them. Against Jones though that was the first time I saw Sonnen with no heart and his never give up attitude, he went into the fight knowing he was going to lose.
He didn't go into it knowing he is going to lose, otherwise why show up? he was confident in his ability and he had a gameplan but what the fight showed was that Jones went against the grain and started mixing things up and didn't stand there trying to pick Sonnen apart. Sonnen defended the 1st takedown and then got taken down twice and of course when Jones is on top with his 6'4 225lb frame it's hard to escape.

I said Sonnen was all mouth and no bite, and so it proved.
He is garbage really, he only got these last two titles fights because he ran his mouth.

Fights should be based on talent in the octogan, not on the mic.

Hopefully that is the last we will see of him in there now, let him stick to doing what he is best at, mocking people with his pizza business.
Just because a Middleweight lost to the Light-Heavyweight champion it doesn't make him "garbage" he is still a contender in the Middleweight division for sure, and if Weidman can pull off the upset Chael is right back in the game.

How is he still a contender at Middleweight??

Shouldn't he err you know have to win some fights to be a contender?? Not coming off multiple losses??

He is brilliant at talking himself into fights, but then he hasn't done enough to win them, so until he wins some fights he shouldn't be near another title shot.

To be fair to Sonnen he has lost his last 2 but they were to Jones and Silva, that isnt the easiest run of fights. Whether he was deserving of those fights is obviously debatable but he does not deserve to be written off for those 2 fights.
I think he will call time on the career now anyway.

He probably thought he may grind Jones down and get a lcuky win but when he took Ultimate Fighter and knew this fight was coming up if he was totally honest with himself there is no way he thought he would be coming out the winner of that fight. Jones would smash Sonnen all day long.

I don't believe for one minute that Sonnen came in to play to his strengths in this fight. He promoted a fight and he came to fight. Sonnen comes in and basically starts trying to brawl with Jones, that's not a fighter playing it smart and trying to play to his main strengths.

It's tough to see where he goes from here really. He's only really going to want big fights, so who exactly is left? Hopefully we see him at least one more time in the octagon.

Apparently Silva also called Dana and said he wants the superfight. Whether that's Jones or GSP, nobody seems to know. And it'll all hinder on the result of Silva/Weidman.

Yes they were losses to two very good, if not the best fighters around (along with GSP of course), but they are still losses, he should not be a contender after losing two on the trot, if he can get some wins, then fine, but not after losing bouts.

He only got the Jones fight because of his mouth, nothing else, if Dana or Joel keeps on rewarding him for running his mouth without being able to back it up in the ring, it will continue to be a farce.

Hopefully I agree with your last sentence, that he retires, although that will mean that he will continue running his mouth off on the MMA show that he hosts.

He shouldn't be looking past Weidman, as he is one tough cookie, but if Silva can win that match, a Jones v Silva match would be huge!

I couldn't call it, as both are great, but if I was pushed, I would go with Jones purely because he is the younger man, but it would still be an awesome fight.

Got to agree, I think Jones would get by Silva

wow no comments after last nights UFC160 ??

I felt a bit sorry for Mark Hunt last night, he took a pounding from Dos santos, good fight tho and a good performance from the champ against bigfoot......Cain vs Junior 3 is gonna be one heck of a battle!

Not mentioned yet but Zingano is injured and Tate replaces her on TUF coaching against Ronda and also get's the title shot. Zingano seemingly looking at 6-9 months out, guaranteed a title shot against the winner granted she has a healthy recovery.

Win/win really, going to be quality. Well, apart from the possibility of seeing Caraway, the most detestable person in MMA, on television.

Marks on Dos Santos's face ?? I think you mean Hunt's face !!

Junior was almost unscathed while Hunt's face was messed up, even more so when he tried to get up and ran face first into the wire fence...poor guy.

Was that some sort of record as to the most amount of first round stoppages?

There was a heck of a lot of padding going on in the show!

Well it had to happen didn't it??

The streak is finally over, well done to Chris for not falling for the mind games as so many of his previous opponents have done.

It certainly opens up that division, which if Silva had won, would have been on a hiatus.
Also no more superfights either.

...Anderson Silva of 2-3 years ago would have still wasted Chris Weidman, the Anderson Silva of 2013 is tired, unmotivated and too invested in his family to carry on fighting to his full potential, Anderson would have been able to stuff those take-downs before, seems like there is a death in the MMA world the way the fans are reacting, reminds me of the same day after Fedor lost to Werdum.

as far as the So called superfights... I have said form the word go that smaller fighters very rarely go up in weight and have success
I honestly dont believe George would last a single round with Silva and add to that I dont think Silva would last a round with Jon Jones

Strange what he said after the fight though, that he will continue fighting, but not for the belt.

Also has anyone seen the post fight show? I presume that Chael was his usual self, and claiming how poor Silva is as fighter etc? That guy really does my but in.

I don't know where he goes from here, a rematch?? He is getting to the latter end of his time in the octagon now.

The only super-fight truly on the cards now would be Jon Jones/Cain Velasquez if/when Jon decides to move up.

I think he'd want a re-match in Brazil because he knows that is the only one he'd be super-motivated for.

Who should be Chris' first title defence be against now? There is a lot of potentially good fights out there in that division all of a sudden.

He said that he doesn't want to fight for the title anymore, so why would there be a re-match? I suppose money talks, but it is not as if he is in dire straights or anything like that.

They all say things post-fight, but when they get a chance to sit-down after the dust settles and talk it over they change their mind and Dana knows Anderson is still big money.

As far as the no.1 contender goes, well I think Vitor Belfort would be next in line.

That is true, but Silva is not exactly a young pup anymore, so there can't be that much more left in the tank, so even more reason I suppose to use as much as possible.

Vitor is no spring chicken either, but he is still very good and would cause or pose Chris a lot of problems.

Interesting times ahead for this division now, which there might not have been had Silva won.

Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman and Lennox Lewis vs Hassim Rahman.

Both champs have no respect for their opponents, with Anderson showing up in shape but behaving like a c*** and Lennox not bothering to train properly and looking sluggish, and also keeping his hands down, but not being as much of a c*** as Anderson.

Both guy's get there clocks cleaned but Lewis took a much, much harder shot and suffered a much worse KO.

Both guy's feel like c**** and beat themselves up about how stupid they've been.

Lewis comes back knowing he can kill Rahman and scores one of the most brutal KO's of all time with ease.

I believe Anderson will come back and pretty much kill Weidman, if he want's to.

Stupid, silly Spider is beating himself up right now with all 8 weapons.
