Horrible end to the fight though. Never want to see anything like that happen. Not the way Silva would have wanted his career to end. Which I imagine will happen now.

Weidman vs Jones anyone???”

Not gonna happen, Gustaffsson will get better and fans want to see that re-match and also Daniel Cormier is another massive test for Jones.

Weidman will have his hands full with Belfort, Machida and Jacare.

Well I will say that I have seen many hardcore matches in wrestling, and not really been that affected by things, but that injury, especially when they showed that reply of Silva's leg wobbling, that did produce a little bit of bile in my mouth.

That was a seriously nasty way to end the fight, and sadly his carrier most likely.

If 2013 sees no more GSP or Spider, then that will be a deeply sad way to end the year, as those are the two best ever in the history of MMA, they will be two might big pair of gloves to fill.

Also surely the two 8-0's must fight each other next, Cat and Rousey?
That makes sense to me.
I love Rousey being a heel, you can tell she is a huge Hot Rod fan!

WOW,,what an ending,,,I can't see Anderson coming back from that. It looked like it was just the skin keeping the bottom of his leg on . I remember Luc Nilis having a similar injury while playing for Villa, and he had to retire from football.

As for Ronda Rousey, she has no class, there is no need to act like a bitch in this sport. If she wants to act like a heel go to the WWE. She has the skills to become a quality champion without all the BS.

Plus her moody, angry face on her entrance makes me laugh

Rousey fights McMann first at 170 in February. They discussed the possibility before the Rousey/Tate fight and Rousey eventually went with it. Zingano doesn't return to training until March, she'll fight the winner of this one granted she stays healthy. Quality.

Brilliant night last night. Pretty gutting to see that happen to Silva, something that Weidman trained on in the lead up to the fight though. Browne destroying Barnett the way he did actually surprised me, brutal finish.

Ahh yes, I forgot about the McMann fight, that will be a hum dinger, credit though to Tate for taking Rousey out of her comfort zone of the first round, but she never really looked like beating her I thought.

Yes those elbows from Browne were as they say "straight up nasty", you wouldn't want to make him use those on you!

Belfort is juiced up now, he's kicking people in the head. Even in the ringside cameo he looked like he wanted to punch someone. Really want to see Weidman crushed, to see Silva's career ended by such a boring bloke is horrible.

Winning a match via a block, doesn't really have the same impact as winning it via submission or knockout, so until Weidman wins a match on his own merits (he did well in the first Silva match, but Silva beat himself with all of his usual playacting nonsense) then there will always be doubts about him as champion (in my mind at least), he needs a fight which he wins on his own terms.

UFC live and dies on people being willing to buy the pay per views in North America, so they need entertainment value, and if Rousey's fights are going to be judo throw-armbar over & over then they need something else to sell them on

There was as much non Judo as there was Judo, Tate took it too her in the first round, punch for punch.

If tate allowed her to do Judo then that's her fault, not Rouseys, you fight to your strenghts

As you say pay per view lives by entertainment, you got it last night, she's the boo girl now, the fighter you love to hate.

I actually respect Rousey fir standing by her principles, it would be easy to do the PR thing and shake Tates hand, but if she really doesn't like her, then why should she?
It would only be contrived, and not real, so good for her I say, there are not many people that stand by what they believe in fully these days.

I see the UFC are doing 6 events in Europe in 2014. Does anyone know where these will takes place? I know one of them is taking place at the O2 Arena London but can't find any info on the other 5. Does anyone know where and when these will take place?

I don't know when but they announced the countries as:

England (The O2), Ireland (O2 in Dublin probably), Sweden (Malmo), Germany (Berlin), Poland (Lodz I think?) and Turkey (Istanbul).

Ross Pearson out of the Guillard fight.. knee injury
I would suspect his management team had another look at the beating Guillard dished out last time and rather had 2nd thoughts about Pearson going in with him again
Michael Johnson takes his place

Massive change today with Nevada banning all testosterone replacement therapy exemptions, likely meaning Chael Sonnen, Frank Mir, Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort and others will likely have problems fighting in Vegas and puts a huge question mark over the UFC 173 main event Chris Weidman v Vitor Belfort as Belfort presumably won't be able to fight without TRT.

Ive got my hands on UFC 1 - 170, its amazing that Vitor Belfort popped up in UFC 12 way back in 1997 , amazing that he is still fighting in the UFC.

Its been brilliant watching the evolution of the UFC on screen

It's not a huge name event that's going to attract subscribers, it is however broadcast at a time where a lot of people will watch (free) out of curiosity given it's a UK card - basically it will function as a very long advert for BT Sport. I expect that's a balance they're happy with

I watched Here Comes The Boom the other week and thought the fighting was awesome so decided to watch UFC for the first time ever, beginning with 170; main, prelims and discussion show. I love it and can't believe I never got into it before.

I think Menjivar and Wang Sai should have got the decisions in their fights so was a little disappointed when their opponents won instead. Lipeng just couldn't control the ground well enough once he had the takedown, and he lost the standing, in my opinion, so shouldn't have got the victory.

Watch the original UFC bouts, barely any rules, no weight classes and some seriously bizarre and amazing fights.

You're in for a treat, tonnes of shows and fights to catch up on. I'd probably say in terms of recent ones check out 166 which Dana even said was the greatest night of fights they've ever had.

I started watching UFC at UFC 36: Worlds Collide and was instantly hooked ( I was a long time Wrestling fan until I turned to UFC ) Anyway I did manage to get my hands on earlier UFC matches and have never looked back.

It's hard to pick particular UFC bouts as everyone has there own favourites, mine were always anything involving Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture and Matt Hughes, and favourite bouts were the Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell & Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell fights. Also if you get chance check out some if not all The Ultimate Fighter program series.

As I said other posters will have there own favourites but if i was to start all over again I'd start from the very beginning UFC 1.

Oh and on a final note there's a great documentary called Fighting for a Generation 20 Years of the UFC that aired on FOX Sports last year, it's out on DVD but only as a Blu-ray import from Amazon but it's a great watch and explains the birth of UFC up to present day.
