Problems with wifi since 'upgrade'

Hi everyone,
am a less than satisfied HC customer - had been running ok until an 'upgrade' a couple of months back (I forget when exactly). The first thing I noticed after rebooting etc was that my favourites had doubled up and would crash the set when i tried to scroll down through them so after selecting channels through the All chanels menu for a while I had to sit and delete out all the extras which cured the crashing (though a whole load of my Favourites have since dissappeared - anothe rupgrade???).

Worst was the loss of wifi. I've got a Netgear unit hooked up and was working well but it mysteriously lost signal strength after the upgrade. I can actually connect to the network about a foot away from the router (not the point of wifi!) and by plugging the network cable direct into my laptop. Have now tried another wifi router with exactly the same problem - an extremely limited range.

HC customer help have been no help (other than recommending their own wifi unit) so the cynic in me wonders if they're trying to stop customers using anything other than their own units?

Any suggestion gratefully received,

Chris

I did initially write quite a sarcastic response to this, but I'm having a mellowed out day today so I'll let you off

Seriously though, the chances of HomeChoice doing *anything* that could affect your router's signal strength are approximately zero. It's. Just. Not. Possible.

I've not seen Favourites double up before (that's weird) - but it does say in the manual or in the FAQs that Favourites are deleted if you don't access them for 28 days. Hope that helps.

try taking the cable your router connects to out re boot box and power everything else of, reconnect to the port next to it then power stb up and wait for red light to go out, then power router and wait for blue light on stb then power up computer

Thanks for avoiding the sarcasm! I couldn't understand how HC could have affected the wifi strength so went out and bought a new router assuming ours had fried (on the very same night of the upgrade...) but have the exact same problem - different modek, brand, everything. And it's not our laptop as we've tried two and can see other local wifi's fine. Very confusing.

And, yes, we've tried powering down and back up every which way.

Didn't know that about the favourites but they've definitely been accessed regularly and it wasn't all of them that was deleted, just most of them!

Most likely something causing interference/blocking the signal. Got any cordless phones or dodgy microwaves nearby?

It could also be that somebody in an adjacent house/flat is using a router set to the same channel number as you. This could cause interference too, so try using the router's setup page to change the channel number it uses.

Good advice, I'll give it a try thanks.

There is a cordless phone nearby but it's been there all along.
