External hard drive found but can't be accessed
I have had my external hard drive for over a year now, it's pretty hard working, especially recently as I've downloaded a few movies etc
When it is plugged in (via USB2) it ding dings and if found. It spins and the green light flashes red seemingly doing something. If I use 'my computer' it finds the drive (altho it takes a while) and I'm able to disconnect it via the green arrow icon. However trying to open it take sages and then finally gives 'error performing in page operation' which sounds like a physical thing. So will I ever be able to access it again - I only need to once to get some things off - altho most is backed up on dvd as well. I'm hoping I can just keep trying and once it will connect altho I am aware that if I keep trying and it is a physical problem it might mak eit worse but as I'm not going to pay 100s of pounds to get the files I'm willing to risk it. Any suggestions? |

If it does work - what would that mean? Other things seem to work via the USB - Camera, other hard drives etc |

i.e. 1. Start > Run > type in cmd then click OK to get a command prompt. 2. Type in chkdsk e: /r (replace e: with the drive letter of your external hard drive). This won't do any harm, it will fix errors on the disk and try to recover data from bad sectors. It might not solve the problem but it's worth a try. |
