I have committed to a singing gig at a local pub and I have been on a website for vocalists that advises amongst essential items for gigging is a mixing desk. This is the only item I do not have.
My PA system is a Carlsbro Marlin 8400 400W 8 channel mixer. As far as I'm concerned I should be able to plug my mic in to one input, the cd player (using backing track cds) into another and I'm good to go. I am assuming the PA system having a built in mixer negates the need for a mixing desk. I have used this PA in rehearsals with my band and it has been fine for this purpose.
Can anyone with experience of this area advise me on whether the mixing desk is such an "essential item" as I have seen these at pretty much every solo singing gig I have been to.
