We have two portable DVD players which the kids use in the car and each watch their own DVD's etc.

Is there a way of connecting the two players together so that if they both want to watch the same DVD they can?

Throw them out and let them use car journeys to talk, play games, watch the scenery, and learn about the big wonderful world we live in.

I would appreciate an answer to my question - not people telling me how I should deal with my children.

The DVD player in the car is great for us as we live in Northumberland and have to drive for a long time to het anywhere decent. It keeps the kids happy and so the journey passes over better. My children are not young, they are 13 and 11, we only acquired our first DVD player a couple of years ago so it's not as if they are being brought up on TV.

I was a stay at home Mam and spent my time with my kids making things, drawing, colouring, going out for walks, play places, playgroups, softplay - you name it, I've done it with them even when they were babies I took them out at least once every day in their pram etc.

If either of you have kids can you honestly say that they have had the same upbringing?

Will depend on your model of DVD players.

You need one that can produce an output, and the other needs to beable to accept an input.

Check the units for connectors. Do the instructions say they can output to TV's, or able to be used as monitors for playstations etc?

It all depends on the players having external connection capability. They may well have video and audio outputs so they can be plugged into a standard TV for instance but it is whether they have INPUTS as well that will determine whether they can be connected together.

Look on the back of the units for any sockets that may be there. You may find red, white and yellow phono sockets for stereo audio (red & white) and video (yellow) out. If you are really lucky there will be a second set of three phono sockets labelled audio and video IN. The audio phonos may be replaced by a mini jack socket similar to the headphones socket.

If you are lucky enough to have audio/video IN sockets as well as OUT then it is a simple matter to interconnect the two. Simply connect a lead from the OUT sockets of one player to the IN sockets of the second. Then if they want to watch the same disc the person using the second player simply switches to the external input.

If you do not have IN sockets on either player then there is no way to connect them together. Don't bother trying to interconnect the OUT sockets as this will not work at all.

You may need to check out the manuals for what the IN-OUT switches actually do but....

If they switch the audio and video sockets between being outputs and inputs then you may have a chance. Simply link the sockets together (audio to audio and video to video obviously ) then on the player that is playing the disc set the switch to OUT and on the other set the switch to IN

You may also have to switch the screen between the machine's DVD drive and the external input, (unless the IN-OUT switch also controls this). Look for a INPUT or SOURCE or AV switch somewhere (or if that fails read the manual )
