Genesis are reforming for a major tour(ker-ching) good or bad idea?

Are Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett in the line up? If not, who gives a stuff?

Good idea. Why not, many of the old bands are still around so Genesis should have a go if they want.

I wouldn't bother if it's just Collins, Banks and Rutherford.

With Gabriel and Hackett it would have been much more interesting.

without Gabriel and Hackett, it's a non starter as far as I'm concerned. I expect Collins needs a few more million to pay for his last divorce. Let's just hope they don't record another album of his depressing songs about relationships that go bust.

SEBTP was the last real Genesis album. After that it became the Phil Collins Band.

Oh good, usual predictable Anti-Collins guff...

For what it's worth, it looks like both 'types' of Genesis will be doing something over the next couple of years, the Collins/Banks/Rutherford trio look set to be heading out on the road next year which will please many and then it's also rumoured that the 5-piece band with Gabriel and Hackett will be doing some sort of 'Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' show in 2008, which will probably please more hardcore fans!

I'd direct you to the official band forum for more info but it's crashed under all the weight of traffic today!

I thought Phil Collins had gone deaf and was giving up music.

Maybe I'm wrong.....

I understood that to be the case as well so you're not alone.

He's lost some hearing in one of his ears, but it's not stopped him at all - he's adjusted to it.

Hello James - fun to see Genesis forum types scattered all over the place for now!

I know! What's with that? Obviously people loved them since they've sold millions and millions of albums, so why bash them now? I don't see anyone bashing The Rolling Stones or any other 'old' bands.

I would go to see them.

Is it the reason behind the weird sound mixes on all of his solo albums down the years?

To be honest I think these lads should leave it alone. Their isn't any new material apparently and I'm not quite sure why they're doing it especially without the original line up.

One of my all-time least liked bands. I can just about listen to the Gabriel and Hackett period stuff but any of their material after that is 100% pants, much like Phil Collins' solo work, and Tony Banks is so far up his own backside he's practically his own haemorrhoid.

I am a fan of the prog/classic rock period and bands of that time. I have no problem with them getting back together or still being around today. Far from it seeing as there is nothing in the current music scene to compare to the talent and quality of most of them. Genesis are just not my thing. I've always thought they tried to hard and taken themselves too seriously.

As for the Stones, I went to see them in August and was very disappointed whe I compared it to the performance I'd seen from the only a few years ago.

I saw Genesis at Bingly hall in Wolerhampton just after Pete left them, what a disapointment that was and they just got worse over the years. So my answer is 100% no.

I would hardly call The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, or for that matter Trick Of The Tail, or Wind & Wuthering albums by The Phil Collins Band.

Back in the late 70s/80s, I loved these albums. I became dissenchanted with Genesis after 'And then there were three...' They became way too commercial from that point on and lost their edge IMO.

I have no problem with bands getting back together or long-established bands staying together and continuing to record and perform ad infinitum as long as they have something to offer. They've never been my favourite band, mainly because I find all three members of their last incarnation nauseatingly smug, but I'll reserve judgement.
