If I subscribe to the BT Broadband Talk service, will I get a standard geographical number (eg 020) or an 05xx number?

I know Vonage allows you to pick your own area code but £7.99 is too much to pay!

Are there any other services that offer cheap calling that allows you to select a standard London (020) area code?

Thanks

Vonage has to be the most expensive VOIP service going out there. I believe all of BT's numbers begin 05 at the moment, can anyone else confirm this?

I'm with Sipgate and have a standard 020 number, their calls are very reasonably priced too but you don't have to credit your account to receive calls.

Yep - SIPGATE seem to sound one of the best with free local STD codes for all over the UK.

BT do give 05 numbers.

Many UK providers give UK geograpical numbers, see here this other post for a list of UK providers http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=476656

I have an account with www.voip.co.uk they are great value £19.95/year then 2p per call up to an hour peak rate and free up to an hour off peak. Once the hour is up just hang up and redial. You can choose which area code you require. You will need a Router that has VOIP capabilities and then you just set it up with your voip.co.uk details. Works great

Thanks guys for your help.

Have used Sipgate before but could not always get a connection - just got either 'fast busy' or 'can not connect your call'. Happened more when dialling non 020 numbers.

I have a free number with www.internetcalls.com a normal Leicester 0116. One must use £8.60 every 4 months but most mainline countries are free therefore one must use on mobiles and 0845/0870 numbers
Oh! only 5 hours a week are free!!
