Here is the Charlie Brooker Screen Burn column from today's Guardian in which he comments on The McDonald Brothers and brings up a controversial topic well covered here last week.

So his favourite struggled and his answer was to play the race card. Had his favourite been white, what excuse would he have had then? And how does he think voting against a black artist equates with Robert, 4Sure, Ashley, Nikitta & leona not ending up in the bottom 2 then?

Yes, Dionne's placement in the bottom 2 may have surprised the naive few who judge on vocal ability (it's only a music show after all!!!!), but did it really surprise DS posters? Not me. She'd been slated on here since the start for her "lack of personality". And really, editing on the audition shows had not really been favourable to her, she came across as veering from automaton to hysteric, with no real shades of personality in between.

Am I the naive one in believing that's why Dionne was in the bottom 2? From the mix of acts on this year's show, it is likely that each week one of the bottom 2 will be black or mixed race. So batten down the hatches now.

For the McDonald Brothers read The Conways - they outstayed their talent too. Both acts are undeniably sh*te, but they are the only cardigan acts in the show, so for anyone who likes that sort of thing, they are the only option. If you like a female ballad you've got a choice between Nikita, Leona, Kerry or Dionne.

So Dionne didn't deserve to be in bottom 2 and the McDs probably did. Neither will win. Dionne has a fantastic voice, but no X factor.

Better get ready for more of this from Charlie Brooker and The Guardian Readers (bet they'd look like The Unconventionals) because one thing is certain - most of the black acts are going to land in the bottom 2 at some point in the show ..... oh and so will the white ones Charlie.

I read the hard copy of this earlier (my sister's paper/guide) and we don't look like the Unconventionals!

I just got the impression he didn't watch the show maybe the clips at the end because his write up comes across as very ignorant!

Sorry! Just got carried away by the idea of a band called "Charlie Brooker and The Guardian Readers"...... maybe they could cover Black Box "Ride on time" and rename it "Right-on Time"?!

(Just imagine what "Garry Bushell and The Sun Readers" might sing? Or even worse.... "Melanie Phillips and the Daily Mail Readers" )

Totally agree with your comments Balti. I think Charlie has a very ignorant view of the british public to think that race is an issue here. If he had watched the audition/bootcamp shows he would have realised why Dionne might have been in the bottom two and it is naive of him to think that the X Factor is just judged on vocal talent. It is a personality competition too after all!!

No, the only reason I can think of is that she's black
The fact that Mr Brooker can think of no other reason does not mean that there are no other reasons. Possible reasons, racism being only one of many, were suggested and discussed here at DS last weekend by people with more insight into how The X Factor works. The fact is none of us really knows what the reasons were (and yes, there may well be more than one reason).

This guy Brooker is clearly a complete and utter prat.

How ignorant is this plonker, it has absolutely bog all to do with race and everything to do with the fact that she didn't get any votes.

He is suggesting that people conciously voted for other acts to deliberately get her off the show!!!

I have yet to encounter a coherent arguement from these buffoons who constantly bring out the race card.

Am going to start writing to the papers next time a white act goes to show that they have been discriminated against and with any luck it will show up the ridiculousness of these articles.

You only have to look at previous finalists and their performance in order to see that race doesn't come into it.
