No EPG Update

Does anyone else have the same problem? My EPG has not updated for the last two nights. The last date that I have EPG data for is the 1st November. I even did a mains power reset last evening in case there was a glitch somewhere, but last night still no update. Signal levels on Mux D (and all other Muxes) seem normal.

I am running the V2.3.9 software and getting my signal from Crystal Palace.

Ditto, Waltham.

The DHD4000 definitely attempted downloading this morning as I was still stumbling around at 3am

Seems to be a 4TV problem, as Digifusion owners also in the same boat as discussed here.

I have logging turned on and for the last two nights the logs have been totally normal with no trace of a problem. However, give or take a minute the download usually completes at 3.43am, but the last two have finished at 3.29am.

The contents of the logs look absolutely fine with:

page 11 showing ‘ALL EPG Files Received’
page 12 ‘OADS: Stopping EPG Download’
page 13 ‘CheckDownloadStop: Rebooting after download’.

All perfectly valid and normal entries. It appears that is going through the correct motions, but at the end of it no new EPG - very strange

Sorry to wander off topic a moment, but I picked up you're on Waltham.

Could you just check that freeview subtitles on ITV1 are OK from there. There's a guy on a Sagem forum having trouble with them and we are trying to rule out tx problems.

Other channels are OK.

No, the s/ts appear to be borked here on the Grand Prix qualifying - came up with one line and then stuck....

Switched to BBC1 on Ross' show - fine

Back to ITV1...hmm, very staccato : keep sticking....

I'll post over there

Hardly something to warrant demanding a refund as it is nothing to do with a fault on the box.

I think the advertsing and packaging would have mentioned a 14 day EPG, which it clearly wouldn't have if the 4TV service has stopped. Shops should expect a rush to return if the worst has happened.

To blame the box and demand a refund is daft - it is not Thomson's fault even if 4TV had disappeared - but as updates are still taking place (even if no new data is appearing at the moment) that seems unlikely.

It is like blaming the box because you missed a programme through the broadcaster changing the schedule.

Have to agree with you rottenswede!
And to put it into perspective, without EPG updates it means that after 1 Nov you will not even get 'Now' and 'NEXT' information!
So effectively its about as much use as the current EPG is for 5Life and 5US.

I just checked my logs on my Thomson to see if there was any info on why the EPG dls weren't happening and noticed that there was an entry from a few days ago that the box could not verify the data for UKTV FOOD.

Strange, I thought, I don't get that channel, so I did a search and found it at the very end of the list. (735, I think.)

I guess it must have been added when the box was rescanned for the recent addition of the Five channels.

I know it's a long shot, but a rescan has removed UKTV FOOD, so I'll see if that changes the outcome on the next EPG download.

Oops!
Just shot myself in the foot.
I went into engineering and deleted guide information. The guide DOES show now/next info which presumably must come from freeview instead of 4TV - so not entirely useless.
Also noticed that now/next info is present for 5Life and 5US - which confirms it is freeview not 4TV.

IIRC don't Thomson's own 4TV these days ?

It's over on PVRWorld actually so I'll pass it on there also. Much obliged squire.

EDIT: ... which you've already discovered, now I've read the rest of the thread! Doh!

Now/Next info comes from Freeview; the rest from 4TV.

It's deffo a 4TV issue - not a lot anyone can do at present, but certainly worth a few of us raising it with Thomson's CS tomorrow.

I'm gonna give the Coolstream Theory (see above - rescan channels in light of erroneous addition of UK Food) a go : may be a good idea if someone here specifically does not do a rescan, so we can rule it out

Thomson own 4TV so this is probably a glitch rather than policy. Maybe they tried to get the new 5 channels into the EPG and screwed it all up.

Speaking of dodgy EPG information, is anybody getting "As BBC2" from 8pm onwards of a Sunday evening, instead of programme names for BBC2 Scotland.

This is at least the second time I have seen this in the space of a month.

As other's have pointed out, Thomson have owned 4TV for the last year or so, so it very much would be their fault!
