Samsung LCD Tv Hints & Tips
okuda

I'm starting this thread as a sort of self help for everyone with a R series samsung LCD Tv so feel free to add any hints and tips that you have come across..!

Please note most of these ideas will invalidate your warrenty..! Use at your own risk..!!

Problem:- Freeview completely stuck and can not use any of the digital functions:

Reason:- If you are in a low to medium signal area and try to tune in digital Tv the software can sometimes throw a fit and totally lockup..!!

Answer:- Access the service menu and do a system reset this then makes then Tv think its a new install and all software and hardware reboots..!!

Problem:- Light patches down the screen

Reason:- Heat !! What can happen is simply the screen is flexing if getting too hot thus distorting the LCD panel slightly, this might be due to the screws in the back being tighter on one side than the other and in hot weather the pastic case expands thus causing stesses on the panel..!

Answer:- Either slightly undo the back panel screws a quater turn or cool the room down..!! (or move to iceland!)

Sounds like the screws are to tight on the left and the screen is under tension thus causing the light patches and when the tv has been on for a while the casing has stretched and released the tension and then got too hot and had the opposite effect..??? Is that corner near a radiator..? is the problem worse when the rad is on..??

From what a samsung engineer said to me is that when you have a faultly panel you would normally get dark patches not light patches..

Please note this is just guess work here, i am not a samsung engineer!!

If you are really worried and have only just bought the Tv you have 28 days to return it to the place you bought it for a refund or replacement..!!

nice one,
i think the problems not serious from the sounds of it
the tv is not near a radiator i have adjusted the brightness and it seems to have gone right down
but if i had dark patches then i would take it back
how bad were the patches on youtr tv?
and is this a common prob with lcds or samsungs?
thanks
