Being as shocked as everybody else with the exit of Spoony and Ola, I've spent a fascinating few hours reading the debates across many threads (and adding some comments) as to the reason for their exit.
I thought I'd list all of the theories I've so far come across and to ask if anybody can add any more.

[In no particular order]

1. It was a deliberate fix by the BBC to somehow make the public spend more money next week and future weeks to keep in their favourites to stop this from happening again; ie Ola and Spoony weren't actually last.

2. It was because Spoony is black that he had less people voting for him.

3. The voting public are largely female and were jealous of Ola's good looks & so did not vote for her.

4. It has something to do with aliens.

5. Ola and Spoony are not well-known enough to the voting public to get enough votes; Ola is a new dancer and has a lower fan-base than Anton or Brendan for example.

6. People felt that Ola and Spoony were 'safe' and did not vote for them.

7. Sympathy votes for the 'bad' performances of Jan and Georgina considerably boosted their total score. This will have been based on their showing during itt this week. (The public votes for the underdog.)

8. The judges comments on the night were sufficiently mean enough to some couples to cause the voting public to phone in large numbers in between the two Saturday shows. Thus, if the judges were nice, then Georgina would not have received as many votes.

9. Some informed viewers thought that no couple was to be evicted this week with the exit of Jimmy and those 'floating voters' did not pick up the phone for their favourite couples thinking it was a waste of time.

I think that's covered them all - unless you know different

PS I saw Elvis this morning and he says hello.

[PPS I made one of the above theories up ]

I'd go with number 4! Damn aliens! I blame Tom Cruise!

Caught between 4 and 6. I'm sure its because people assumed they were safe... but you can never rule out those damned aliens!

I like the alien theory - either that, or it was Elvis.

I'm with no.4. Either that or I blame Saddam Hussein.

Ooh I do love a good conspiracy theory. Have to confess to 9 (silly me) though I think in general, it was a case of 6. What a shame. Teaches us all a lesson though. In the words of Len – "Don't moan, pick up the phone!" c.SCD3

It was those damn Aliens again ...

Seriosly though they weren't a popular couple... Look at the poll thing we did not many people voted for them... We all love underdogs and the bashing of Georgina gets a sympathy vote... Whilst Anton is too popular (then again it didn't work for Ian)...

Mindhorn, one will go with all of those theories listed and also a number 39 , egg fried rice.

Well said! Does Elvis like rice?

also i can't see many of the strictly viewers being radio 1 fans (me excluded!)...therefore spooney would also have a relatively small fanbase.....
spoony was fave to go with the bookies before the show started....i wasnt that shocked personally.

I saw Lord Lucan ride past on Shergar this morning ...

(And there's a guy works down our chip shop swears he Elvis )

I would be interested to know, though what the percentage of votes is that are cast through the week before the actual dancing is done. I wouldn't be surprised if Jan and Anton (and even Georgina and James) were high in the public vote count and possibly safe before they even danced.

With regard to number two, i know race is frequently cited as a voting problem in reality shows, but we should remember that both Denise & Colin made it to the finals and came second, so they were obviously getting votes aplenty! Don't watch any other reality shows so can't comment on race & voting in them....

It was a joint conspiracy between the Women's Institute, the League for the Subjucation of Men AND that annoying organisation that Mary Whitehouse used to run to keep dirty pictures off our telly.

They all saw Ola and said 'She has got to go'

The W I, cos they were very concerned that too many men were starting to take an unusual interest in SCD and the husbands were, looking at their wives and saying 'why don't you dress like that' and any effort to look as good as Ola would have required excessive time wasting that is better used for flower arranging and chutney making. Similarly the increased 'marital demands' on a Saturday night since Ola appeared have interferred with the preserving of this years apple stocks.

The League for the Subjucation of Men, cos they don't want men getting any funny ideas. FULL STOP.

And Mary Whitehouse's mob, well FFS you need to be blind not to see why they object.

Two weeks ago a secret meeting of senior officials of all three organisations took place on the day after SCD started and it was decided that each group would vote constantly for every other couple in a very organised fashion to ensure that no way could Ola and Spoony slip through any public vote this week, with a very strict regime on various groups being responsible for certain pairs and the splitting of each organisations responsibilities being spread amongst certain regions. When it all comes out I think you'll find that there were a lot of votes for Georgina from South Wales, I can't say anymore............

On a less organised level, Childline was inexplicably poorly staffed on Saturday night between 7 and 9:30, any rumours that on seeing Anton in the bottom two caused Esther Rantzen to pull some strings will be vehemently denied.

And of course Sir Alex Ferguson has issued a standing order to players and staff at Man U to vote for Peter as soon as possible.

*trying very hard not to laugh out loud in the office*

If I ever get sacked for squeaking like a maniac or worse still, die from suffocation from trying not to laugh I shall blame it on you lot!!

Anyhow I am betting on David Blunkett, too. He must have seen Anton's outfit and thought it was a miracle.

You are all wrong! I have it on good authority that it was all planned by that well known pacifist Mr George Bush and his best friend and thoroughly good egg, Tony Blair. Things haven’t been going too well for them and they aren’t very popular. I can’t understand why, but there you go.
They are desperate to be popular again so they spiked Jimmy’s Sanatogen tonic wine with ecstasy which caused his B/P to rise thus ensuring he left the competition.
Next Saturday, they will be brought in as a surprise substitute couple. George, or Georgio as he will henceforth be known will be dancing with Toni erstwhile PM Blair who I’m told looks very sultry in a low cut ball gown. Of course he’s had extensive reconstructive surgery so will be a bit slow on the turns
