So Steve Brooksteins new single didn't even make it into the top 40??

I only heard it once! Was it that bad??

I like it. But I'm not surprised that it isn't in the top 40, now that he doesn't have the support of Simon Cowell anymore - and it's been two years since his X-Factor, so he can't rely on that audience to remember him.

Especially when at one of the shows on his tour they sold less than one tenth of the tickets!!

This implies that the X Factor audience has the attention span of goldfish. How can you 'forget' an artist you previously liked enough to spend huge amounts of money voting for, within two years?
I've been waiting nine years for a new Sundays album! Just sitting here, listening to Static and Silence on repeat, gazing at a picture of Harriet Wheeler. If I get even a hint that they might be about to release anything I shall camp outside HMV with me sleeping bag until the new stuff comes out. Well, slight exaggeration, but it really annoys me how 'fans' like Steve Brooksteins can be so fickle.

This is the X factor in a nutsell. Disposable TV at its best or worst. Even last year's winner, Shayne Ward, has done little really since his mega selling single at the beginning of the year on the back of the show. I somehow doubt he will do anything very much in the future. He has lost his momentum and now of course, everyones attention is on who will win this series. You see the poor souls week by week who are voted off and they all look desperately optimistic about being noticed, record deals etc etc which inevitably come to nothing. The show is horribly addictive but ultimately cruel. I doubt very much we will see another contestant from one of these type of shows with the longevity that Will Young has had. Love him or loathe him, you have to agree that he has stayed the course since Pop Idol I - nobody else has really come close to what he has achieved. Some people may say G4 had a good run from the first series of X factor but they are not really in the league of Young, and of course they are constantly in their own little competition with the much better looking and Cowell supported, Il Divo.

Fickleness is a trait of the reality tv viewer. Most acts even those that are successful lose like nearly two thirds of buyers from the FIRST SINGLE to the second. People just go on to the next show. I remember a girl from Fame Academy singing at some massive rugby match after getting a #2 and commenting no problem it'll be a #1 next time, sadly it usually doesn't work like that.
