The Kerry appreciation thread

Personally I think Kerry is a great singer. But I think the problem this year is, is that there's been too many sob stories and people have become jaded by it. People thought the wheelchair would work in her favour, get her the "sympathy vote," but it now seems to be the thing getting in the way of a true appreciation of her talent. People can't seem to see past the wheelchair and hear that she's actually a very good singer, and doesn't need a sympathy vote, because she deserves to be there on merit alone.

It's true, she got off to a bad start in the first week of the live shows, they played it a bit safe and we all fell asleep a bit. But this week she was much, much better IMO, yet still people don't seem to want to listen.

I'm still not sure if she's one of the best, as I don't feel we've really heard the best of her yet, but I do she could be up there with Liona, Dionne and Ben, given a chance to shine. But what I do know for a fact is that she's ALOT better than the likes of Ray, The Mac Brothers and few more in there, so undoubtly deserves a few more weeks to really start to shine.

Come on Kerry fans, show your support!

Without wishing to launch a flamewar in an appreciation thread...

You're forgetting that a lot of us really do think she's insufferably boring, bland, untalented and irritating; the wheelchair makes no difference to me [and to a lot of the other posters here].

That's fine, I can live with that opinion while of course disagreeing. Although I notice when browsing the "get kerry out" thread, alot of the posts refer to the wheelchair. Stuff like "she's using it to win." I mean really, can she help being in the wheelchair? It's not as if it's some unnecessary part of her life, she needs it to get around. They hid it this week and yet she's still getting stick for it.

I'm not really a fan, but I think she gets a rough ride on here.

I do happen to think that she's a good singer, and a much better singer than some of them still in the competition.

I think with some, the wheelchair does get in the way, but in a detrimental way.
What I mean is that people have hated sob stories this year, so it's probably hard to get it out of their minds that Kerry's wheelchair represents something in their minds which they hate in this year's X Factor.
That's my theory anyway. And of course I'm not speaking of everybody feeling this, I just think that it possibly affects some people in this manner and that they see the wheelchair and resent Kerry on gut instinct.

More about what the wheelchair itself symbolises of this year's X Factor rather than necessarily a reflection on Kerry herself.

And then there's the fact that some people may feel she hasn't given the greatest performances and that they have been a bit safe. I'd agree with that. I think that the songs she has been given so far, aren't really showstopping songs that other contestants have been given.

Personally speaking, I think that she is a very good singer, even though her performances from her first two songs haven't been awe inspiring.
But I do think she's quality, and I do think that she's a good singer.
There's one or two acts still in the contest that I personally feel are much inferior singers compared to Kerry.

I just think that she needs to be given some good strong material to get her teeth into and deliver a great performance. I think that's all she needs to turn things around a bit, and then be seen as a valid contender.
She needs to be given material which isn't so safe and MOR.

I do believe that based on her singing in itself she deserves to last longer than one or two other names there that I could mention.
She does need to be given stronger material to perform by her mentor. Her songs so far have possibly been too lightweight. Which isn't really her fault.

There are other threads if you want to post detrimental comments
Its customary on DS for appriciation threads to be just that, appriciative. The idea is to avoid the petty bickering that consumes so many others threads as the competition hots up.
Thanks.

anyway..I like Kerry, she has a good voice imo, and I think she will imrpove as time goes by.

I have been a supporter of Kerry throughout the show because I think she has a great voice and a very good personality.

What must be remembered is that most of the posters on these forums are hardcore X-Factor fans whereas most of the voters only tune in for the Saturday Night shows and probably don't read about the show very much. I do agree with the OP in that a lot of forum members have been wound up by the so called sob stories, but as I stated in another thread a few weeks ago, I don't see Kerry as a sob story and she certainly has not been "using" the wheelchair to win the competition.

To all the Kerry fans reading this, don't worry, she's doing great and has not appeared in the bottom 2 yet.

I don't give two hoots about the sob stories, she's a fine singer and seems to be a pretty nice person too.
She's not the best singer in the competition, but she may be the one who the judges think will sell more records and the mugs who waste their money voting may like her too.

As with all of these shows I was hoping for something refreshing and different, the only ones who were anything like that have already gone and we're ending up watching a bunch of pretty dull singers on the whole. Cowell and the others will make their money and will say what looks good on telly to get people voting.

In short, and I'll make this my final point on this subject - I'd do her.

I dont think that her wheelchair will make any difference .
If people think that her disability works in her favour what about 2 to go in the first serious. they were out by the third week.

I thought she was ok, , but she keeps saying I can do better but I dont believe she can, these two last performences have been the same very average.

I really like Kerry and want her to do well but to be honest the way things are going she could be out fairly soon.

She needs to give a brilliant performance next week and I for one hope she does. I don't think we have seen the best of her vocally yet. But it must be hard when people can jump on top of pianos etc, she cant compete with that.
