Is it just me or does the camera work on SCD really ruin the dancing. It was irritating in Series one, but now the camera man/woman must literally be running across the floor, sometimes only just narrowly avoiding being hit by the dancers.

Its hard to appreciate the dance because the camera is moving faster then the dancers. The wider shots could work - just keep then there, so we can see the dance - now we're even having to put up with the shadow of the camera man/woman on the floor! Its all so manic!

There is now THREE people dancing on the floor - the couple and the camera - except the cameraman/woman can't dance!

Good camera work should mean that we don't notice it - rather then having me all anxious that he's going to run into the dancers!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I love the show so much and the camera work is ruining it for me!

I have noticed this actually - sometimes the camera swings round really quickly and makes me dizzy.

It's been going on since Fred Astaire's day: directors hate the idea of holding the cameras back, keeping the cutting to a minimum and showing the legs and feet. You need a director confident enough not to want to be flash.

They have improved since series1 - they went whole dances without showing any feet. But I do agree it's poor at times.

The director will be mapping out the shots during the dress rehearsal. I guess one explanation maybe - especially with the male celebs - if they're not exactly in the same place during the live show they could be having some near misses!

Dodgems anyone!

I agree with you - but it happens on all sorts of shows. It's just that it shows up more on this show. We need to see their feet.

In series 2 i didn't really notice it, in series 3 i was like grr hold the camera still and in series 4 i'm like oh dear i'm gonna be sick! also noticed that the worse the dancers are the more the camera goes round and round, a clever plan to try and cover up the worst dances???

It's not just on SCD - the camera work on the X Factor and other entertainment shows is just as bad. I don't know why they can't focus on the dancers/entertainers so you can actually concentrate on their performances.

Agreed, the camera work is SO intrusive and obvious and in some cases can really ruin the appreciation of a dance. I thought it was particularly bad in Lousia's jive this week .

Can we not just have a static camera on every angle and just....watch the dance ? I don't want to be saying "No no, stay there I was enjoying that shot ! Why are you whirling about ?" when watching the show ! I want to forget there's a camera there at all !

THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE! The camera has become like a character in itself!

PLEASE ANYONE WITH ANY INFLUENCE IN THE BBC WHO MIGHT BE READING THIS TELL ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN THAT IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM!

(is it also so irritating when they have live performers on the second show with dancing and then have shots where its the singers and not the dancers. HAs anyone ever told them that we use our ears to LISTEN to music and our eyes to WATCH the dance! JUST SHOW US THE DANCING DAMN IT!)

Yes I hate the camera work where some over keen camera man, clearly on work experience is trying to make his mark by flying all over the dance floor as the dancers spin and turn. Half the time he goes too close and I'm surprised the dancers haven't hit the camera yet!

Add me to the list! I get so annoyed when the camera shifts constantly and I have to watch a succession of shots that only show a part of the couple.

Which clown decided, many years ago, that viewers would be bored with a fixed camera? Was it someone who'd never been to a theatre or a live concert?

And me!I have complained directly to the BBC and threads on this forum but no one takes any notice.
It's ghastly-the worst camers work ever. The sports prog cameras can show a whole player and a whole pitch- why not the SCD camera.

Good point ! Imagine if football was shot like that - lots of quick shots from different angles, whirling around a player as he runs, too many cuts etc. It would ruin the match !

We. Just. Want. To. Watch. The. Dancing !

Ab- so- lute-ly!

For people who have visual problems or Chronic Fatigue it is a real nightmare.I sometimes have to shut my eyes to keep my balance. It's such a shame to spoil a great show like this.

They have new cameras this series. They are like an advanced version of a steadycam - and quite small. The guys can literally run about and the camera will stay steady - as if on wheels. Its a hovercraft type thing.

The same clown that decided viewers would never listen to people speaking in a documentary without music playing loudly in the background.
Any director/producer who can't keep the picture we see on our screen focused on a full-length view of the couple, except when some intricate footwork is involved and a close-up would be nice, should resign immediately.

I thought it was just me who had noticed the dodgy camera shots! How are the voting public supposed to vote on the dances if we can't see the dancers feet properly? Grrr

I know it wouldn't solve it for everybody but one option I would really like would be similar to the football where you can use your red button to chose to watch through a different camera.

It really is frustrating - and such a pity to miss the main action. Imagine in football, if the camera didn't always show the goals but panned instead to the defenders standing near the centre of the pitch watching the goal scorer.

Hear, hear to the above.

I too would just like to be able to watch the dance - and the footwork!!!!

I also agree that it seems that the worse the dancer the more manic the camerawork.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who gets really annoyed by the IMO horrible camerawork. I was actually shouting at my telly a few times last Saturday. Please PLEASE do something about it BBC! Quit the silly close ups or audience shots, we want to see the dancers and their footwork!

The camera work on this series has been the worst of the last three for me (didn't watch series one). I don't know what the point is investing (presumably) lots of money in the latest technology in cameras if it produces that kind of result.

To me, good camera work is the kind that you don't notice... because the focus of the show should be the dancers, and the camera work should help you to see as much of the action as possible. These cameramen seem on a mission to show us how much they can fling themselves around the room... I don't think anyone is interested in watching "Strictly Come Camera". It makes me dizzy, it cuts out half of the footwork, and takes the focus off the dancers.

This really annoys me, I want to see something they are doing I hear the crowd roar and we've missed it, so bloody annoying!!! Beeb sort it out. There should be four camera angles at each corner of the dance floor (above it) stay off the bloody floor!
