I agree, the camera work is waaaaaaaay too frantic. I'm not interested in seeing close ups of top halves I want to see feet moving.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeease BBC stop the frenetic camera pace and let us enjoy more than 5 seconds of 1 shot!

I was at the show a week ago, and to see that idiot cameraman running frantically around the floor in and out of the dancers while they were performing was quite offputting. God know what it does for the dancers concentration!! He could have set a world record for the sprint!! It looked really ridiculous, and the result of all this frenetic movement is something nobody wants anyway! I do wish the producers would realise this!

All TV directors seem to assume we have the attention span of the MTV generation, and feel we will all get up to make a cup of tea if the shot is on the screen for longer than 5 seconds. At least we should be thankful that they havn't let some spotty youth start playing with the visual effects generator which appears to be the sole outcome of so called 'tv and meja' courses.

I think we should get a posse together. I'm sure Matt would show us a few good tackles to help us keep the cameramen pinned to the floor.

Here Here - bloody camera work is ridiculous- really spoiling the show. But hey what do I know? I'm just the viewer that would like to see the dancers dancing. A few static cameras that show you the whole thing would be marvellous. I wonder do they have the technology to just show us the show as it should be seen!

Wanted to bump this up the list again and to say;

perhaps there could be a warning before the show in the same way there is before strobe lighting is shown on tv, that nausea and dizziness may be caused by the crazy careering camera work!

Was so interested to read what you had to say - I always wondered what it must be like for the people actually there - its sounds as though it was as ridiculous as I had imagined!

Am so pleased theres been so much agreement about this so perhaps the BBC will take note (PLEASE DO BECAUSE I LOVE THE PROGRAMME!)

WE WANT TO WATCH THE PROGRAMME AND NOT THE NEAR MISSES OF THE CAMERA WITH THE DANCERS!

Bumping again so the Producers at the 'Nerve Centre' of SCD can take note.

Can anyone say if the BBC have ever responded to any of the complaints on these forums...... ? I've complained to their own website about loads of different things SCD-related over the years and have heard zilch

No- I don't think so.
I've complained about rubbish camera work for years to the BBC direct and they don't improve it.I did wonder about writing to Michael Grade...but doubt whether it would do any good.
They mustn't have any quality reviews..and I thought it was MY BBC!

You could also look up who are currently on the Broadcasting Councils for the BBC in your area.

The list should be online and you could either contact the council or a committee member direct - if you knew them.

The BBC also periodically holds public meetings around the country. Again you should check online to find out details.

i also hate the camera work and have done since series one - I have to say I do think its better than previous series, at least in the singing bits they do show the dancers - I remember series one and Anton dancing and we hardly saw him, I was shouting so loud at the telly!!!

But yes, the beeb have to dumb everything down and keep running around changing shots etc. May be they should have interactive expert commentary and expert static cameras, and the usual rubbish on one.

Last year a load of us emailed the producer - to the extent the email address inbox got filled and she got pretty pissed off. BBC email addresses seem to be firstname dot surname dot bbc.co.uk, the seris director is nikki parsons, the series producer is sam donnelly, the executive producer is martin scott. Worth a try!!! I'll check my old emails to see the silly reply I got last time!!!

One thing though, I'm sure I suggested that they get the pro's to do a show dance / demo each week - and now they do...

Thanks for the BBC complaint link.

Just submitted my complaint to BBC website. Feel a teeny bit better for it. Might try Points of View as well now.

The link given a few posts above didn't work for me - if it doens't work for you guys try this one:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/make...nt_step1.shtml

This is roughly what I wrote:
The camera work on Strictly come dancing is some of the worst that I have ever seen on a programme! I absolutely love the programme, but now the camera's rush across the stage, often nearly colliding with the dancers and its really difficult to see what's going on, and often we see the shawdow of a camera man as he manically rushes across the floor. I find the entire show is almost ruined by this, and I have started a post about this on the Strictly come dancing forum with numerous responses. This is a huge issue for people watching the show - please could you just calm the camera's down, and just have several still camera shots so that we could enjoy the dancing rather then having to put up with shoddy camera work. Thank you.

Its hard to appreciate the dance because the camera is moving faster then the dancers. The wider shots could work - just keep then there, so we can see the dance - now we're even having to put up with the shadow of the camera man/woman on the floor! Its all so manic!

There is now THREE people dancing on the floor - the couple and the camera - except the cameraman/woman can't dance!

Good camera work should mean that we don't notice it - rather then having me all anxious that he's going to run into the dancers!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I love the show so much and the camera work is ruining it for me!
The rubbish camera work as you call it and, more importantly, the rubbish dance music chosen by someone, who should be shot IMHO.
Both are spoiling this competition. Bring back the days of the Geraldo Orchestra, Edmudo Ross and of course the Victor Silvester orchestra and then you'd really see inspired dancing!!

here are copies of emails I sent to the previous producer of SCD and Strictly dance fever, complaints about camera work and not showing the prof dancers but showing the guest singers:

"Dear producer, What a fantastic show – I loved the first series and the second series seems to have even more talent – especially the celebrity men. But what a shame about the camera men. For some reason they feel the need to zoom around attempting to follow the dancers, focusing on the faces and totally missing the feet, where the complex footwork is taking place. Last night while Jill was dancing suddenly the camera men were at the back of the hall behind the judges, I think Jill did the splits between her partner’s feet (legs) but I couldn’t see it, then there was a comment about her dress getting caught or something – I have watched it 3 times and couldn’t see what happened. Could the camera men please keep still, and in particular can you stop the overhead one that swirls round above the dancers. I am a dancer myself and love the show but really just want to see the dancing.

However, worse than the above was the filming of the demonstration dance by Darren and Lilia. Bruce introduced them as “here are Darren and Lilia dancing…but it will be sung by…” He might as well have said “Here are Darren and Lilia dancing…but you won’t be able to see it as we will show the singer’s face. We can hear the singing, we don’t need to see him, it is a dance show, we want to watch the professional dancers show us how it should be done – it is not top of the pops to launch a singers career.

Please, please, in future just let us see these fantastic professionals demonstrate their abilities. Please do not insult them by not showing them"

The reply:
"Many thanks for your feedback, which we have taken on board.
Glad to hear that, in general, you enjoy the show."

Second email:

Well, you’ve done it again haven’t you????

A fantastic show, (strictly dance fever), a fantastic Argentine Tango couple – I think… BUT WE COULDN’T SEE THEM!!!!

This is a show about DANCE. I know you see it as all round entertainment, but PLEASE SHOW US THE DANCING, have the singer in the corner, or as well if you have to, BUT NOT INSTEAD. You are driving us all mad.

And we didn’t even see Alex and Katie’s mishap in their lift as while Katie was around Alex’s back the camera was half way round the studio.

Please unless you want us to turn off please sort this out, it is also pretty offensive to the dancers not to show them.

The reply:
"Many thanks for your e-mail, I'm glad you enjoyed the show and appreciate your feedback.

But, this is an entertainment show based around a dancing competition, it's not strictly a dance show.

And, while I endeavour to bring a balance between the dance and the entertainment values, I'm afraid we can't please all the people all the time and without the live music, the stunning singer and the beautiful setting some viewers wouldn't find watching a straight Argentine Tango a fulfilling three minutes of television (which is why you rarely see it!)

So I endeavour to strike a balance and produce good TV with a wide appeal and hope I've done dance a service through my shows by making it a more attractive and digestible watch.

Thank you for your comments"

(How she can say "its not strictly a dance show" I don't know....)

Ridiculous. Very well, 3 minutes of dancing may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it IS a dance show, and having 2 of those 3 minutes focused on the singers and the audience is plain stupid.

Grrrrrrrr.

What a bizzare reply! Maybe next time they should just film the singers, but without any sound - thats basically the equivilent of what we get with the dancers! I hate the way they patronize the public - WE WANT TO SEE THE DANCERS AND WE CAN COPE WITH JUST USING OUR EARS TO HEAR A SONG DUH!

That's an extraordinary reply.

So the producer thinks we'd rather see behind a curtain/a chandelier/the floor than the dancers?
How do we last through the half an hour of ITT,I wonder?
And football matches are 90 minutes!

What a very partronising&disrespectful reply.I think you should print it & send it to Michael Grade.
Mass complaining begin!
