with the demise of Steve Brookstein & Shane Ward whats the point in the x factor! plane & simple question folks!

The point is that Cowell,Walsh and Osbourne make even more money than they already have. Until the Public as a whole see this circus as a stain on the music industry it will sadly continue.

well neither Shayne or Steve have died but Steve is touring and does have an album of his own music out and seems to be happy & so do his fans - so at least the X-factor brought him to his fans attention

If you have a quick look at X-Factor threads you can see the tide is turning. More & more threads about how dreadful the acts are & that fact that it is unlikely that anybody will have a long term career. Still plenty who like 'picking the best' which is just saturday night entertainment like Strictly Come Dancing & no doubt will move on to Dancing on Ice in the New Year!!! It is just cruel for the acts who believe they are going to get something out of this.

Depends what you mean by any point.

If you mean a massive star who'll be top of the charts in five years time, I doubt it as I think anyone who knows they're REALLY good will try to find another route as Cowell's show comes with a lot of bad publicity tagged on.

In the US American Idol can be the route to a lot of success, as it's now become respected to an extent with some big success stories and talented artists will go for it.

Here big success is unlikely, but possible, and a fair few people will continue to make a living from appearing on it even if it's only in the clubs.

In my opinion the X-Factor will only have a point when they allow groups that write and play their own music to compete. This type of talent can very easily get lost along the way as members of the groups either get tired of trying or just move on before they have had a chance. Having watched Rockstar Supernova recently I realised what we are missing in the uk!

I agree but I think this has been on the cards for a long time. They cannot win can they? Will is castigated for not going abroad and Shayne for not staying here!

The whole point of the show is for the judges' egos and to make them lots and lots of dosh.

these organising fools expect a R&B band to sing rod-stuart--and then wonder why they get chucked out!!!!!

ADVICE:::: go to ur local pub or gig and see real musicians playing real original music and find the next real act--not a puppet.

Well I'm more than happy for them to be abroad as long as they don't come back. After all out of sight, out of mind and all that.

I'm sure many of the people on X-Factor could be manufactured into a successful act a la Girls Aloud. Take said average X-Factor singer(s) with the right look, spend a shed load of money on stylists, promotion and most importantly, songwriters and Bob's your Uncle. To increase longevity whilst minimising expenditure, simply record cover versions of popular songs. It's not as though they even have to sing live if that's too risky and might spoil the illusion.

However, to me it seems like X-Factor is all about the TV show rather than actually finding and developing a new artist. It's a money-making exercise and they can rake in so much from the TV show that they don't see the point of spending money on the winner to make them a success. Just cash-in for a short time after the show has finished and then wait for the next series. I'm convinced Simon Cowell doesn't even like music, I can almost see the £££ signs in his eyes as he's ridiculously over-praising one of the contestants for maximum effect.

It's hard for me to feel sorry for the contestants though. They're getting their 15 minutes of fame which they would never have had without the show. There are plenty of talented artists to enjoy who didn't need a TV show to get started. Actual musicians who write their own songs and who make it due to talent and hard work. There's absolutely no need for shows like this imo but I just look at it as (very) light entertainment, no need to take it seriously. For instance, I watched a little last week and saw a terrible boy band who were completely out of tune who were then praised by the judges with Simon Cowell saying they reminded him of Take That.....priceless .

Winner gets a million and a decent wedge from selling the 'hard knock life to temporary stardom' story to the tabloids who'll eat up for a week or so.

Osbourne raises her PR even further, continues her own show on ITV.

Walsh gets PR, raises more money

Cowell takes a fortune from the inevitable number one single and album and not forgetting the official Winners Tour and X-Factor Final 12 Tour and he stays in high profile.

they get a million to spend on producing/promoting/stylist/image/dance lessons and so on....
if they recorded in a very good studio, they would have change from 100k,, but no they are advised to record in abbey-road for example---- a little more i expect.

Its for 3 people - they go by the names of Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell! They know and we know that teh act at the end probably won't last because a. tehy just won't have the credibility after winning a TV talent contest and b. they're just not unique anymore - they're made to sing certain songs on X Factor and people just won't think they're original after they've sung boring, predictable and safe songs EVERY single week for the past 3 months.

Simon Cowell is so far up his own a*se its quite surreal that people like him. I think Louis and Sharon see more sense, Sharon because she takes time out to spend with her acts and get to know them - and also she proved that the voting public only like 'safe/ boring' songs - when Maria sang Brown Sugar fabulously in my opinion, she got voted out teh same night - the acts just can't get their own style accross on TV anymore, sadly. Louis because he cares about his acts and he knows what sells, he seems a genuinely nice guy, he doesn't get the credit he should. Simon is the least credible judge on the panel.

So... there is no point to X factor, its not original, its an enjoyable program to watch. I watch for teh judges because they're (at times) funny. Thats all!

They have to pay for their own videos too.

The show provides a massive audience and that is it's main purpose. The winner is in my Cowell's hand and he's not known for developing talent, is he?
