How long does it take for FOOD/DRINK to pass through the body?
Just a random curious question really.
How long does the average breakfast/lunch/dinner take before it passes through the stomach, in through the intestines and ready to be passed out through the anus? In addition, how long does it take for drink to be passed through? I.e. water, cup of tea, alcohol etc. I'm not really much of a scientist, but if anyone knew, it'd be really interesting to know. Ken. |

Go to the toilet then drink a big cup of tea...see how long it takes before you are bursting for a pee. It varies with everyone! For me its usually anywhere between half an hour to 2 hours...it depends on your metabolism and how much you have eaten. There really is no definite answer. Same for food, certain foods are processed quicker than others. |

So, if I was to have a big cup of tea, it would come out at the same time would it? Not half the cup one time and half the cup 30 minutes later? Hmm. I feel a little experiment coming on! |

Depends on the person's system and the food being digested, but can take around 8 - 24 hours from start to finish I think maybe perhaps

Why do I always want to go for a pee a short time following ejaculation?
If I have a drink then I'll need to go in about an hour or 2. But even if I have been for a pee first,I'll need to go again between 10 and 15 minutes after sex. Why? |

It always takes exactly 37 hours for food, and 163 hours for water to pass through your body. Doesn't matter what the food or drink is, it always takes the same amount of time. No other variables affect anything, such as exercise, weather, or distance from the nearest asteroid belt.

Tomato skins also pass through the body in one piece, so that's something else you could try.

If you're healthy and eating the right foods with plenty of fibre, what goes in one evening should come out the next morning. Unfortunately, in the western world many people don't eat this sort of diet so it can take a lot longer.

Years ago my science teacher told us that it takes approx two days for ingested food to come out of the other end. He also said the sky is not really blue, and it's just a refraction from the blue seas and oceans.
I don't know if any of the above is true, but it's what Mr Makucewicz told me. |

It depends on the food, some food takes longer to break down, then it can take hours and hours to pass through the intestines. Pee - an hour, poo upto24 hours.

When I was in the Forces we had a saying."It takes 24 hours for the human body to turn food into shit, and it takes an Air Force cook 20 minutes to do the same".

Liquid is quick, food will take much longer, depending on what it is & the person who's eaten it. Someone who's overweight, never gets any exercise, just sits around all day, the process might take up to 3 days; for someone who's fit, active & with a higher metabolic rate it could be closer to 1 day.
