I've had one of these for a couple of months now. Also have a Philips HTS6510 'surround' sound system and a Philips DVDR3305 recorder. I also have Sky HD.
32PF9641D : Give excellent picture performance with both HD pictures and upscaled images from the DVD player. The Pixel Plus 2 HD does appear to make a real difference. However, Pixel Plus 3 HD is now available but I guess you will pay a premium for a newer set. The TV also comes with dual ambilight, which kind of grows on you. From a connectivity perspective, philips spoil you. 2 HDMI ports which I'd consider to be essential. A couple of SCARTs, component inputs and a digitial audio out etc. Also, theres a USB port so you can connect you camera, memory stick etc direct. It does suffer from some of the usual problems HD LCD TV have with standard defintion pictures. In that the actually look worse than on your old TV ... but I think that is kind of unavoidable at the moment. Usability of the menus takes a little getting used to. Not as intuitive as I would have liked. Looks. It looks fantastic! You should have no problem convincing the missus that this will look great in the living room. I suppose I'm a bit of a Philips bigot. I've heard bad things about them. I'm sure when you tell your mates you have a Philips they won't go "Oooooo very nice!". But you will get an excellent TV. My experience is i've never had a problem or failure with them. If you do, new firmware is available for download for all the new kit... including this TV on the philips website. So you can be sure you have the latest. You can rest assured when it comes from the shop it certainly won't. If you buy What Hifi magazine next month they are looking for the TV of the year There will be a Philips in that there always is. I believe one won last year. If you are buying this TV, I would buy a DVD player with HDMI upscaling and I suppose you could consider SKY HD. Why else would you want a HD Ready TV. One word of warning. Sky HD. Looks great and will enable you to impress you friends with the perfect picture on the TV. Downside... its like SKY+ in the early days. Bug ridden software fails repeatedly. There is also not enough space on the hard drive to record in HD all the time. You need to go into it with your eyes open. Don't expect too much. |
