They are rubbish and therefore all guitar music is rubbish - it's just a load of skinny white guys twanging around making noise and whining about not having a girl friend

erm I was actually joking!

I own 3 guitars, I used to be in a band and have been in to rap music for over 17 years.

that comment was a reference to the idiots on the steve irwin/rap battle thread.

ho hum

edit: For the record: I don't like the feeling that much (downloaded a few tracks for my g/f - who likes em) - they're nice enough but I wouldn't drop 15 quid to see 'em live

It depends what mood you're in. If you're in a light, floaty, in love kind of mood, then it's the perfect type of music to listen to. Mind you, 'Never Be Lonely' now has a memory attached to it for me anyway, so I couldn't possibly criticise them.
To put them in the same league as the brilliant, clever and innovative 10cc, though, is a bit too much praise. I think they cited them as an 'influence', though.
If you read their comments on their own website, I think it's refreshing that they aren't pretentious and don't think their music is going to change the, or anybody's personal, world. Not like, say, Travis (another easy-to-listen-to but not earth-shattering band), writing sleeve notes like 'these songs have been our life for the past year, but they belong to you now' ughhh.

I got the album after liking the first 3 singles, I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do...Basically, all of the tracks are listenable, well in my eyes anyway.

I agree with most of this, and for the record I do like The Feeling. But I have to wonder what made you reach that conclusion about Travis - who personally I'd say are the least pretentious, least self absorbed band I've ever come across. OK I speak as a fan so I'm biased, but the thing that I think strikes a lot of people whether they like the music or not is how damn nice and humble a bunch of guys they are, totally without the arrogance that you'll (probably rightly) find in at least 99.99% of bands that hit commercial success. Razorlight, Oasis, Keane, Coldplay, probably - but it's the last thing I'd level at Travis, and particularly Fran Healy.

I do like The Feeling's approach to their music, though. They don't pretend to be particularly original and yet actually, they have managed to create quite a distinctive sound which is far more than you could say about most bands of their ilk these days, different shades of grey.

I'm not a Travis fan, I enjoyed the one Travis album that everyone owns (ie The Man Who), but was disappointed by The Invisible Band, and though I don't have them to hand, I remember reading the sleeve notes and thought they came across as quite pretentious for an album so ordinary.
Mind you, you will know far more about them than I do, so I shall bow to that.

Of the other bands you mention, Oasis make my blood boil, they still think they are the most important band in the world, or at least, Liam does. (Noel may be growing up at last with some of his pronouncements in the 'Live Forever' retrospective).

The Feeling are a truly horrible band imo. It's bland, sickly pop-by-numbers with absolutely terrible lyrics. I don't need a band to be original but at least show some sort of passion and/or creativity. It's typical that this sort of thing gets so much airplay from the likes of radio 1 when there are so many better (indie) pop bands around.

Oh, and the band name is awful as well....
