Can Mini USB sockets be repaired?

A friend's Olympus MJU400 camera is failing to be recognised when connected to a PC for downloading photos.

At first we thought the cable was faulty, so we swapped it with a new cable but the problem remained. It seems therefore that the Mini USB socket on the camera has a fault.

Tried blowing compressed air into it but that made no difference. The problem is that the socket is so small and I think you'd need to take the camera apart to access it.

Does anyone know if these sockets are repairable? And, if so, at what sort of cost?

Doubt it'll be a fault with the socket, but more a fault with the camera itself.

Worth noting, Olympus cameras have a 2yr guarantee.
