Distortion on DVD Playback
Hi,
I have just purchased a new Pioneer DCD303 Home Cinema System which I am very happy with. (Multiregion) However, over the last few days I have noticed that, on very rare occasions, for some films, eg, Back to the Future trilogy, Vertical Limit, the playback becomes momentarily distorted. This does not affect the whole screen, just a small part of it, either as a block or a line. The best way I can describe the distortion is like a mosaic effect. The sound is not affected. Is this likely to be the DVD disc or could there be a probelm with my Pioneer player and if so what action should I take? Many thanks, Evolution |

I guess the first port of call would be to exchange your dvd disc to see if it happens again with another copy of the same film.
If it doesn't happen again it wad obviously the DVD disc. However if you are still getting problems I suggest you get you new dvd player exchanged or repaired.

If you watch the film again does it happen in the same place? If so it could be the layer change. Most movie DVD's consist of 2 layers, and when the laser has to switch from the end of one layer to the start of the next there can be a slight pause or distortion. Different players handle the layer change in different ways, in some cases it can be very noticeable, whereas my player (an old Thomson) has no problem at all. As you say it only happens on some films, it could be that the DVD's that don't show the distortion are single layer. |
