Hmmm.

Just checked back, and that post I've put up there was on your original thread!

You really do want an awful lot for your money don't you ..... those ones in the original post are about as good as it's going to get for £100 or less.

Your only other option would be to go second hand/ebay route ....

Looks OK .... but MicroDirect are out of stock and have been for over 6 weeks now by the look of it so god knows when they're likely to get any more in.

Dunno who else stocks it .... it's a 'no brand' job so could be tricky tracking it down.

I wouldn't expect too much from it either. Although the screen is 3", it doesn't say what the resolution is.

To be honest, you're scrabbling around at the total bargain-basement budget end of the PMP market here. In my opinion, you'd be better off saving a few more quid and getting a decent player. One of these cheapo ones might be OK for a while but once the novelty wore off (or if it broke) or you get sick of constantly converting video, you'll end up wishing you'd spent that bit extra for a better player.

Heck, even another £40 will get you a pretty decent digital camera with PMP capability ...

PMP Thing at SVP ...

http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1702
(customer reviews of it on BigPockets actually make it sound
OK)

Thomson PMP @ John Lewis (good shout by the way) ...

http://www.johnlewis.com/Computing/S...chTerm=thomson

Although I can only find it at £149 thats still a damn good price for what it is. By far the best of the cheapies so far. Cnet review of it is OK ...

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/dvdpvr/0,3...9189060,00.htm

If I was you I'd scrape together the extra £30 and go for that one.

If you had unlimited funds? Sure I already mentioned on your first thread .... 30gb Cowon A2.

A slight overstatement I think.

It's a PMP ..... not an ipod nano so it's not going to be tiny! You want the bigger screen, you accept the bigger player.

The 30gb Archos AV500 weighs 255g. My A2 weighs 298g and I can carry it about in my pocket quite happily.

So, it's about on par, size-wise, for a PMP.

You're saying you A2 is 20% heavier, I wouldn't call that on a par.

I can live with the extra 43 grams given the quality of the player.

Also, the Archos needs extra bits added on to connect it up to a TV ... mine doesn't, the leads just plug straight in the side. Given it's a PMP, thats a featurte I use quite a lot.

Oh .... and I may have the weight on the Av500 wrong. According to Amazon (US ... UK doesn't sell the A2 so I didn't use it for comparison), the AV500 is actually 315 grams ... but I think that may be the 100gb version. If you want to go up to the AV700, that clocks in at 590 grams!

300 grams is about par for the course. There are slightly lighter players, there are slightly (or quite a bit in the case of the AV700) heavier players.

But .... you're straying from the topic.

That Thomson player is good value for money. Simple as that.

ebuyer have some quite good deals around as I'm looking for an MP3 player and not quite fussed whether it's an iPod.
Question for someone who has ordered from there before - What's ebuyer's service like as a whole?

Used ebuyer quite a few times, never had any problems.

Apparently, they're not so good to deal with if you have problems (ie. require a return or something) but thats never been an issue for me .....
