I've got caller ID, and recently i've been getting calls from odd numbers which are only 5 digits in length. Here are some for example:

01130
01126
01129
01113

It usually rings a few times, and then stops. Not sure whether it would be wise to answer if it DOES ring again.

Anyone else had something similar?

Looks like you may be victim of caller id spoofing or possible messed up caller id information on calls you are reciving.

I would be interested to know what 1471 (if on a BT land line) records as I've had caller id info of 12345 show up but then 1471 records the last 'proper' number that called me. - Strange.

FYI telephone numbers beginnging 01130 is the national dialing only range in Leeds, the other five digit prefixes you mentioned are not valid so it really does look like spoofed info.

What would it mean if they were spoofing my caller ID? What are the "consequences", and what actions should i take, or is it harmless?

People just spoof their Caller ID, so you don't know the number they are calling from and therefore can't return the call (if you were mad enough to ring back numbers you don't know).

This is just a way of getting around people who have anonymous caller rejection.
