Move From O2 to Three??
kbv1
28-10-2006
Hey
im looking at changing over to 3 next month as my conract comes to an end on o2. O2 have now changed there tariffs and they work out to be really expensive like have to pay to get voice mail and pay for video mins which used to be free. I was looking on 3 website at the Direct Text 1400 for 18 months with a free sony ericsson k800i, 6months double mins and txts, and half price line rental for 6 months also.

I was told 3 are a crap service is that true anymore also, do you have to pay to listen to your voice mail or does it come under your free mins? Do you think i should swap to this awesome offer or is it to good to be true?

Many thanks

You could just try telling o2 to match or beat 3's offer, that's what I did and ended up with a fantastic deal (apart from I was telling them to beat a vodafone offer).

I had an absolute nightmare with 3, crap service (although I believe this is semi-resolved because they piggy-back on o2's network for 3g coverage now), overbilling, then when I tried to cancel, they just kept billing me. Infact, they're still trying to bill me to this date, just my bank keeps reversing the charge every month.

They don't piggy back on O2 for 3G coverage but for 2G when there is no Three coverage available. It is going to be provided by Orange from next year I think.

They piggyback for 3G coverage too. Yes, it is being changed to Orange next year, June/July I beleive the figure was.

I did not think that 3 used o2's 3G network. Even if they do, I'd suggest there'd be very few areas in the country where 3's 89% coverage does not reach and o2's (much lesser) 3G does.

kbv, 3 have to partner with one of 'The Big 4' in order to provide service outside their own 89% service area. Again, while I didn't think the utiltised the 3G side of their partner networks; but either way, it shouldn't make a difference.

For my purposes Three has provided excellent coverage and am happy with the reception etc. My gripe, which I recently spoke to them about was getting incorrect information from their off-shore call centre. I changed my plan twice and was told that the price was inclusive of VAT and when the bill arrived, VAT appeared to be added. Even the guy in Glasgow had me confused.
The problem was they were adding a £5.00 video pack onto the account, no one told me that it was on there, I thought that it was all included. My next move is to get them to remove this and see what happens.
Another piece of advice: I got the deal through phones4u, they didn't explain the plan properly either, just said I could change after six months to another plan. They also had me sign a couple of direct debits, when I got home one was for insurance - cancel it by mail, otherwise you get hassle from the insurance call centre. This is the second time I have had additions added by this company, they put a text pack on my O2 contract without telling me. However I got £150 phone for free because I told them I could wait until it was free. When I phoned O2 to cancel my current contract they said they would have matched the deal, yet the previous week they wanted to charge me £80 to upgrade. It is worth haggling and playing them off each other, you could get a better deal.

Don't know about the web.
The £5 can be used for any downloads e.g. music, games, videos, etc One good thing about Three is you can check your account useage on the phone. Say you download a music track @ 99p then a game @ £2.50, you can check the phone and it will give you your balance, which in this case would be £1.51. The music is can also be downloaded to your computer too, straight from Three.
It will tell you how many texts and minutes you have left. I found it difficult to understand the off-shore call centre staff.

I was with o2 for years and then moved to three to tske advantage of an offer (through phones4u) which was just too good to turn down. I currently pay about £5 a month (after half price rentals and cheque-backs) for 400mins 250 txts, 25 pic msg and 25 vid mins.

But enough of my bragging about my good deal

I have found the servoice fantastic. Its strange, even when I'm in areas where three dont have service (ie when using o2's infrastructure) i get signal in places where i never used to with o2. Also even get signal in places where friends on Vodafone dont, didnt think that ever happened!

Voicemail is deducted from free minutes. Internet access is fast. Previously access was restricted to sites sanctioned by three, but this has now been lifted and you can goto any sites. You can get an add on for internet access where its unlimited for £2.50 a month (its free to look around all three's sites with video downloads etc). However, I've found the option to just pay for the bytes you use always works out cheaper, I hardly ever seem to use more than 70p worth of data a month.

I am pleasantly surprised at how good three's service is, even the LG U880 phone is alright (and I thought i'd never move away from a nokia!)

The "full" web isn't included with your £5 credit. You need to activate a Add Internet add-on; either no monthly fee and £2 per Mb, £2.50 monthly for 10Mb or £5 monthly for 30Mb. These charges are on top of your standard line rental.

I moved from o2 to 3 and was amazed in the difference in call quality. Three's quality is far superior than o2's and there web service is seriously good.

I would recommend 3 to anyone.

The only thing that lets them down is their offshore call centers although i cant say i have ever had much of a hassle with them.

I strongly believe that Three and Orange are now swapping places. I used to not hear a word against Orange but their service is dropping. Their customer service is now in India. My brother in law spent and hour and a half on hold to their customer service the other day and still didn't get it sorted.

Three's customer services have been in India since the start and whilst not perfect they are much better than they were.
