Keeping your number on the same network but a new contract.
Hi there,
I believe it's still not possible to take out one of those offers you see (6 months / 9 months free line rental etc) on the same network with the same number so you have to take out a new contract with a new number.... or take your number to another network with the offer you want.... but is it possible to : a) port a number from your network to a Pay As You Go on another network at the end of your contract, get a new contract on your original network, and then port your original number back. If so how long would this take and would both networks let you do this in such a short space of time ? and b) if you take your original number to a Pay as You Go, how long is it before this would be cut off if you didn't top up or use it frequently ( I believe it is 6 months on 02 but not sure if there is a limit on T-Mobile or Orange). also and this may be a silly question as I have never done this before but I remember a time when you couldn't, but.... c) can you port a Pay As You Go Number to a New Contract phone on another network (again as I say I remember that you never used to be able to on Orange, if say you took the number to 3) ? Thanks |

You may be able to get a good ceal if you tell you current service provider, that you wish to leave and go to someone else, you may then be able to convince them to give you the deal you have seen.
When I told o2 I wished to leave them, they offered me 12 months free line rental with free credit each month. (I turn the offer down due to other reasons) |

Thanks b) It's usually about 6 months although some networks may cut it off after 3 months. c) You can port any number to anywhere. You can port a Pay and Go number to ANY contract no matter whether if it's the same network or a different one. |

For example, an existing O2 contract is coming to an end. If you see a new contract that works out better than upgrading, you can sign up to that new contract and ask O2 to move your current number to the brand new contract. |

it is correct but the networks will usually refuse you as it reduces churn.
it is a physical posibility to do it but i know the networks prefer not to do it. |

It seems I now have to take it to another network's pay as you go, then get another PAC code from there and port it back to the new 3 contract I have, This is likely to take nearly a month to do whilst I have a temporary number which I then have to give out to all my contacts and then alert them when my old number is back. Surely this should be simpler ? |

Even simpler would be to change the terms of your existing contract to that of the contract you want and forget about a second contract.
Not sure any network will allow you to transfer numbers from one contract to another (within the same network) - most will advise you follow the above simple suggestion. |

yes, but they can never match the offers that you can get from online by getting a new contract.
During my 30 day notice they repeatedly called me to offer me an upgrade and despite me telling them that I was moving to a new contract with 12 months free line rental through cash back they could not match it and kept offering more costly deals, therefore I have to take out a new contract. |
