When ballroom/latin dancers dance to inappropriate music, the viewing experience is as though the dancers are dancing their routine without the correct dance rhythm and therefore there is a strange unnaturalness about the whole thing, almost as if they were dancing in one studio whilst some music was playing in another and thus the two are totally unrelated.

It is a though they are just going through a learned dance routine and someone has decided to play any old music to accompany them whilst they do it - I find it completely off-putting, annoying and it will affect my SCD viewing habits in the future. Proper dance music in the correct idiom is the sine qua non of a good performance and will be enhanced, both for the dancers, judges and viewers by it.

I well remember how much I was looking forward to the Paso Doble last series (I suppose I had Torvill/Dean in mind) and how much the dances were ruined by the inappropriate music.

I don't give a fig whether they have used up all the "traditional" music in the previous series - I would much prefer that they re-used old stuff rather than the rubbish they are using now.

Mission Impossible is just NOT suitable and, in my opinion, made Peter and Erin's chances of a decent mark very low indeed. Last week they got the only reasonable Tango music and it helped them enormously.

well it seems the pro's do choose the music, although the beeb can veto it and do want more "modern music". Erin chose the mission impossible track.

Apart from the odd brigth spot, the music has been awful.

How the dancers are supposed to dance in sympathy with the music and thereby convey the character of the dance is beyond me.

Mark and Karens choice was good (love that film, it's so close to the truth in places .... ) but still not true Paso music.

I must agree with the thoughts in this thread.

In all the controversy about the judging I'd overlooked the fact that I didn't like many of the music choices. I really like the Tango and Paso, but some of the dances were spoilt - or at the very least not helped - by really unsuitable tunes.

Well I am amazed to hear that. It seems particularly surprising given that they did so well the previous week with "traditional" tango music.

Mind you - she is capable of making seriously bad decisions - the dancing dolls for example!
