You seem awfully defensive of these people. It just reads like 'how dare you criticise them when you clearly know nothing about dancing because all you lot do is vote for a nice chest!' Personally whilst they were probably technically fine I thought they lacked any 'performance' which makes great dancing what it is. People aren't saying they don't like them because they don't fancy them/think they're not nice/have bad chests/have rubbish teeth - they're saying the performance as it was was uninspiring and lacked any spark which I'd more than agree with. I think you find that if you step down off your high horse, people talk plenty about the dancing in the threads. Most of the discussion from last night was about the poor scoring based upon favouritism rather than the actual performances. I don't like that there is a lot of voting not based on dancing skill at all but I certainly don't dig at or turn my nose up at those who vote for different reasons. It's entirely up to them why they vote but I'd be very surprised if in the end a very good dancer didn't win. Talent has won out for three series now and I can't see this one being any different. |

The OP is clearly in the know and expressed an informed opinion that what they saw was quite poor and did not represent the dance very well. I'm glad they posted it because from just watching the demo people may get the wrong idea about the Cuban Salsa - it is and can be much better than that. |

Been dancing Cuban for over 4 years taught by Kerry Ribchester and some of the people who spent time working with her over in Cuba. It's a great dance style that is slowly getting popular again and last night was the ideal chance to make it shine. The chance was missed. I could give you a list of everything about it that was not Cuban but I won't. |

So, dig away, bendymixer, I won't apologise for posts that are upsetting you when they are in threads for that particular person. I can talk about Marks dancing too, I am not as shallow as you may like to believe. |

It was more 'Show Cuban Salsa' than normal Cuban Salsa but even so I dance better than that and a quick poll of friends showed that we know a dozen peple who can dance better also. It was also not at the standard of the ballroom/Latin dancers that are normally on which is a shame. Cuban Salsa is VERY sexy, loose and smooth. The Salsa tonight was too stiff: the girls just did not have the flexibility in their hips which is part of the sexiness of Cuban salsa and darn difficult to get right. They did do some Rueda which was in a circle and swapping partners while doing the same moves but it was, again, very basic. I know a couple of previous ex-UK and World Cuban Salsa Champions and just them dancing on their own would have blown that troupe away and they are based in the UK. Google 'Janet and Rafeal' they are professionally trained dancers and Osbanis Tejada. Osbanis is 'just' a drummer but was born in Cuba like Rafeal and is just a natural like all Cuban men. I have watcheed Rafeal and Osbanis take two good female dancers and do an incredible routine - all improvised. It will be interesting to see whether they dance Cross-body lead/New York style next week as that is more ballroomy but still smooth and good to watch and fun!(just in case ant XBL'ers are reading ). But it ain't Cuban. They did some Salsa last year on the show and even the professionals were finding it difficult. For some reason the Beeb do not seem to know who 'the best' are. If someone from the Beeb is reading please get the guys on I have mentioned above they will blow everyone away. It would be great to see the people that you mentioned. |
