Cliff?

Lazytown?

All Angels?

The ones towards the bottom seem more likely IMHO.

If people put their money on anything other the winner of X Factor it's a waste. It is a forgone conlussion they'll be number one, sadly. Mind the other releases for the Christmas number one seem pretty dire.

Sadly that is unlikely to happen again. As the record companies seem to pander too much to the music buying populus and just churn out any old c**p for Christmas. Too many either novelty or reality records (CD's) at Christmas. And yet they are lapped up, yukkk.

You can't blame the record companies for releasing things they think will sell well. They are in the business of making money, after all!

If anyone should be blamed, it's the idiots that buy these records...

True and the main buyers seem to be teenage girls. I know that teenage guys buy music, but a lot the acts now seem to be aimed at that market which is a shame, as the majority of the acts are flaming awful at best
Oh well another dreadful christmas number one coming up, again.

Why is Tony Christie even on this list? I thought the bookies would be right on the mark with what is and isn't fashionable, but Amarillo is so last year.

Sandi Thom is another one whose time has been and gone. Very quickly.

Maybe all DS posters should agree on focussing our attention on one track, all download it just before the chart is compiled, and try to stop the X Factor winner getting it yet again.

The 'race' for the Christmas No1 used to be a Great British tradition, now it's like the football Premiership when you know exactly who's going to win it before the 'competition' starts.

Remember last year, when Justin Lee Collins got the guy out of Mud who wrote the Sophie Ellis Bextor thingee to compose a special Christmas song, and then got a load of people who were apparently famous during the 70s (the only guy I recognised was David Essex) to record it?
JLC was convinced it stood a chance of Xmas No1.
Did it even chart?

Yup I would love a song like that as you say proper christmas song but unfortunately they seem to go with whatever is popular at the moment

E.G. We had that Avid Merrion(sp) song last year I think or the year before  alright I have heard worse I suppose

Me too. I don't care if it's cheesy or a one-hit wonder, at least it's about Christmas. Why should X Factor hijack every single Christmas and manipulate it so that someone who you won't hear about next year will get the number one spot with either a cover or simply a bland song? It's unfair and terribly boring.

I don't watch X Factor, it's a waste of time and futile in the long term. Where are Shayne Ward and Chico now? Where's the originality and the records without a synthesiser playing drums in the background? How I wish The Darkness had got to number one in 2003, because that was a brilliant Christmas single. But no, people bought the most depressing, anti-Christmas song possible!

I bought it! I bought it on principle I didn't really think it was even that great but it had to be done because it made a point

3 rather lovely ladies, *very* reminiscent of the likes of The Andrew Sisters, a bit kitch and retro. I should hate them, least of all for murdering Wuthering Heights, but hell I like 'em. Even the aforementioned Kate Bush-murder-song has grown on me
They won't be number 1 at Christmas though
http://www.myspace.com/puppinisisters

And unrelated, I too wish The Darknes had got Christmas number 1. I can't believe people decided they'd rather have some baldy bloke singing about misery than a balding bloke singing about bell ends...err sorry, bells ending

Seems like a bit of a random list to me but surely it's too early anyway.

What was number one last year?

Shayne bloody Ward - That's My Goal

Where is he now? Who cares?

Simon Cowell is so smug with this sort of thing. I don't mind the honest criticism he gives to contestants, but to just take over the Christmas charts and promote someone who is never going to be seen again is just plain wrong! Grrr.....

Yeah even I who actually watch Xfactor would rather a chrismassy song went to number one. I think its wrong the way the christmas number one spot always gets hijacked by xFactor, because the singers never do very well afterwards anyway. I only watch the show cause its good entertainment.

Also I LOVED that darkness song back in 2003, and I was so shocked that that depressing load of nonsense went to number one instead. There was nothing happy and cheery about that song whatsoever, and thats what christmas is supposed to be about.

Presactly. Christmas is supposed to be about happiness and fun and family.

Although I guess there's those that would argue that some find Christmas a really miserable time and that miserable songs sum that up... but lets face it who wnats to be reminded of that...
