i loved this ep, was a little disappointed by the first 2 but i do agree with an earlier post that they are just finding their feet.
And a bit of comedy for everyone who has ever lived in/near cardiff. the estate agents and the people who live there do have a tendency to call splot 'splow' ok so maybe the rest of the uk wouldnt have found that amusing but it made me chuckle!! |

Why does everyone keep saying they need more Jack, it's supposed to be 'his show'??? Since WHEN was it 'his show'? I ALWAYS got the impression in the lead up to the show that it was going to be an ensemble piece, with 6 leads (though 1 mysteriously ended up not making the final cut!!)... just because Jack was the most known character and actor, I never got the impression he was going to be 'The Doctor'. He's not a title character - Torchwood is the title character, and there are 5 people working at Torchwood.
Anyway, loved it tonight. |

This episode was a vast improvement over the last two. It was also much better than alot of new who as well. I voted Good. I will now be using this episode as a yard stick. Unfortunately the weakest part of the programme remains the whole "gang" thing about Torchwood, any moment I expect to see Shaggy or Wilma.
It was a good yarn though and I enjoyed it. Gareth doesn't look like he could fight the Federation any more. |

Does it make you tense? I think you ought to relax. Here, have a seat. Let me pour you a nice hot cup of STFU. (in his North Wales accent) |

I think some people in this thread are taking the show a bit too seriously.

Voted average this week which is an improvement on last weeks but Torchood distinctly lacks something. You have the wonderful Gwen played by the wonderful Eve Myles but no male lead. There is some chap dressed in 1940's gear trying to deliver some wonderful lines that still come out cliched, corny and melodramatic. There is something disturbingly earnest in JB's delivery that I can't take him as seriously as I did when he first appeared in Who.
The script was much punchier though at times tried too hard but for me Eve steals the entire show. That scene between Gwen and her boyfriend in the flat was incredible. Gareth Thomas gave a good performance but I find the Torchwood lackies lacking in any presence and purpose really. By the way who funds Torchwood? |

Wow. Wasn't expecting it to be that good tonight. That was one of the best shows of anything i have watched in a while.
That alien device - its already messing with my brain. If you actually feel what the people were experiencing at the time - that would mess you up. Very powerful in my opinion. Certainly not a dressed up kids show. One thing about the show - the incidental music is absolutely superb. The music that played at the end when the old guy died at the end was perfect. Why can't Murray Gold be more like this in Doctor Who. Sometimes less is more. Jim |
