Bug Fix for VideoRedo users
Roy22
30-10-2006
Those of you who may use VideoRedo to convert/edit your Humax’s Transport Stream recordings into a format for burning to DVD may want to know about a recent bug and its fix which will surface after upgrading (free) to the latest VideoRedo Version 2.5.2.491.

You may well want to follow the fix now even if you’ve yet to encounter the problem. Here's what VideoRedo said:

Humax PVR issue with Build 491
________________________________________
Some Humax PVR users are having problems opening transport streams in our new release 2.5.2.491. The error message is "... PID not found".

The problem stems from a change we made to open transport streams faster. However, due to the way the Humax stores files, we didn't read enough data in the file to find all the program material.

The solution is simple:

1) While holding the Shift key, go to Tools>Options.
2) Change the setting of "Number of times a PMT has to be read when opening a file" to '10' (no quotes).
3) Click OK.

Starting in build 492, the default will be increased.

Thanks Roy, I've hit this one so will try the fix tonight.

You can also go into Tools/Options/Stream Parameters, and check the option "Ignore Transport Stream Maps"

Also as advised by Video ReDo! Works fine.

I'm using 2.2.1.445 and had no problems.

You guys do rename the file to MPG/MPEG don't you?

Rayon - I never rename the transferred file. The Humax has been adding the .ts extension itself during transfer process for some time now, so I just go with that and let VideoRedo handle it 'as is'.

I was under the impression that renaming a file to indicate a different extension/file format was unwise/risky?

While looking at programs for getting the ts stream into a DVD compatible format (which I can now do - I use a Mac) I came across the Ripdifferent site and its forums.

For the past couple of days I haven't been able to access the site, I just get a blank page.

I don't think it is a caching issue on my browser, as it seems to occur with various browsers.

Can anyone else confirm this issu.

Renaming files is a good thing with Windows because if you have a suspicious file you can rename it as a text file and open it in Notepad where it'll be dead and you can view it.

As for changing .ts to .mpg or .mpeg I've always done that and Videoredo (and other apps) are happy with it. If you can't rename (or want to change back) you need to go to into any folder and:

Tools/Folder Options/View tab/ tick or untick “Hide extensions for known file types” and hit Apply.

Rayon, I do know how to rename files, and I wasn't referring to special cases like the opening of suspicious files with 'safe' programs like a text editor.

I meant that as the Humax's native format is transport stream (.ts), why would you want to change this extension?

If a program can't handle transport stream, changing the extension will not change the file's format.

It's an old habit from using NeroVision (which never liked .ts but did like .mpg).

And although I don't know the technical side of things I assume the file is some sort of MPEG anyway.
