Question for Toshiba 32WLT66 owners
Hi all,
I've read a fair bit on these forums and other places about this HDTV. It seems to get top ratings everywhere but whenever I go into a local Comet/Currys I'm never particularly impressed with the picture quality - did anyone else experience these doubts prior to purchase? Obviously I know they're not running an HD feed through it but it still doesn't look very sharp on normal TV/freeview pictures. Before I spend around £700 on it could somebody convince me that the picture quality is really as good as people claim? Alternatively are there any other TVs are on the market for a similar price with 2 HDMI inputs and freeview built in that people have brought and would recommend? Also, is the only difference between the 32WLT66 and 32WLT68 an extra HDMI input? Thanks in advance. Wizross |

Hi i got one of these 2 months ago and you are right that on first viewing it didn't look particularly spectacular however pop in a recent dvd (e.g revenge of the sith) and you will be very impressed with colours, black levels motion tracking etc. (opening space battle is superb roll on cheap hd dvd players)
You have to remember live feeds vary in quality especially in a shop where the signal is split across lots of tv's. There is also the mythical bedding in period where after a month or so the picture seems to settle, also there are some preset viewing modes 1 - too bright 2 - less bright 3 - close to good M - User definable but do not start playing with M for at least 1 hour to allow screen to settle. not sure about other questions though wullien p.s i managed to download pirates of the carribean2 & Terminator2 samples in hd and play from my laptop using pc in connection - amazing |

I bought a 42WLT66 recently and whilst researching which telly to get I found the same thing with Comet/Currys. How they manage to sell anything on the strength of what they display in store amazes me. My local Richer Sounds however have fine tuned all their sets to the max and they look very impressive.
In terms of the actual TV display the picture quality is improved with SD broadcasts on my set by having a HDMI connection from my TVDrive. It's not perfect but then SD broadcasts weren't meant to stretch to 42". On a smaller screen it should look just dandy. |

I've had my 32WLT66 for a month now - very impressed on all feeds. {Sky HD on order}.
Read numerous reviews and was torn between that and the Samsung LE32R41BX. Luckily, my local Comet had the Tosh - Panasonic TX32LXD60 - and the Samsung sittting side by side with the Sky demo HD trailer running. [footie clips and that Chelsea mupppet playing keepie up]. The Samsung won easily on looks [still think it is one gorgeous TV] - but the Tosh and the Samsung were so close on picture quality. Found a Dixons deal online and got the Tosh delivered for £679 - excxellent straight out of the box. Bog standard 3ft tv aerial on roof- Analogue TV is very good - Digital is 1st class - Sky+ via the RGB scart is also excellent. Cheap DVD player via component gives the best picture of all - I can't wait to see it with SkyHD Played around with the picture settings after a couple of days - who doesn't - and my M settings are similar to preset 2 - but that's a personal viewpoint.Would most certainly recommend this TV as a 1st venture into HD - I've no complaints, especially with freeview and Sky+. I have a Tosh 37WL66 (same as 37WLT66 but no freeview) and it looks great - especially if using a component source!
I suspect foul play in Currys, all the decent TVs that recieve good reviews seem to run analogue sources, and the Lucky Goldstars (LG) run HD signals - hardly seems a fair comparison!? |
