The format is astounding, the style and glamour it's brought to our screens.
The band and singers are superb.
The entertainment of seeing such recognisable faces learning new skills and in turn raising money for such a good cause.
Being able to sit with 4 generations of the family and all be entertained.

I love it because my kids think Brucie is funny and it makes me smile, they have their own score cards (age 6 and 5 btw) and decide how much they would give to each couple ! There isn't a lot of 'family' entertainment around so well done to SCD, it makes Saturday night special

SCD Saturday reminds me of when I was little, and watching the Generation Game and such with my parents... good times!

I love that your little ones have score cards miaviv!

totally agree, cuddling up on the couch with the folks watching Generation Game (Brucie connection there), I used to love that. Yes, cute about the score cards isn't it, they always give good marks too ! My six year old does a good impression of Bruno too !

I think I like it because it is different and very refreshing. It's great to see some good old fashioned glamour, and also the showcasing of really genuinly talented people.

I also like how you see each celeb get used to the dancing and seeing them improve. Plus how the partnership develops.

The best thing though, is when you see someone who has never danced before really falling in love with it, and blossoming. Like Aled in series 2, Darren Gough in 3 and I believe Mark is doing in this series.

True, but I think Peter would win the prize for falling in love with it the most, do we really know what Mark thinks about things as he isn't the most communicative....

that bought a tear to my eye, as my Dad is no longer with us, and we used to do that!

he has already said on a few occasions how much he is loving it, and he never thought he would.

Ahh yes Peter too! But I think Mark is the same... remember those early training clips where he kept on getting it wrong, was pretty much silent and looked like he didn't want to be there... and then his peformance for the Cha Cha Cha looked like he was having a ball! And the way he seems to enjoy doing the dancing I think adds to his performance.

I would have to agree that watching celebs fall in love with dancing and the way that some of them have communicated this to the viewers is one of the best things about SCD. It is just so much better than other reality/talent shows on at the moment, I don't understand how anyone wouldn't like it

You know what Fiona, there are things that stay with you forever like that (getting slushy here...), I'm always telling my mum and dad that this sticks in my mind, I hope my kids will say to me that they remember watching "the dancers" as they call it with me in about 20 years time !

I think thats why I like Brucie - yes he is cheesier than cheese on toast followed by cheese straws and cheesy wotsits - but he is a link to my Dad, and memories of a lovely childhood, so therefore he's alright by me!

Love the cheese overload, yes I have a lot of affection for him too, for the same family related reasons, good old brucie eh. I just wish someone would give him some better jokes to tell, they are cringeworthy at times.

If Bruce suddenly started telling really funny jokes, the world would surely spin off its axel?!

I think the jokes are good (not actually 'good' but you get what I mean) although they need to be cut down. I just wished he'd stop with this 'You're my favourite' catchphrase. It was quite funny last year... now it's just old.

It's funny how a lot of people dislike Brucie on SCD (probably the ones that are under 20) but I think he's perfect as the host. Graham Norton is fab on SDF but Bruce brings in the link with the old come dancing programme and the twinkly, sequined world of a bygone era - good old family entertainment. I like Tess too, I think she is "wholesome" (I'm sounding like my mother now !) and I love her northern accent that she has not tried to change, good for her. Somebody please give her better dresses to wear though

Ach well, I'm coughover40cough and have never liked Bruce - didn't like the Generation Game at all and spent Saturday nights willing the Grandparents to turn the tele over.
But have now embraced the wonder that is Sky+ and so can just run him on - now I find he dosen't bother me that much at all.

I wouldn't mind betting that there is a law against Brucie zapping !

Other good things about SCD:

They have an excuse to make a saucy video for Children in Need - ladies in stockings, men in uniforms - oooer.

I have to say the format is probably a big thing to do with SCD, one week, one (or two for the later episodes) dances, one couple.

Also I think the amount of coverage training, arguments and sundry other items get are worthwhile. Similarly they help idiots like me with regular descriptions of what's what.

Hey it works, if we start to over ananlyse we might find the cracks and not enjoy it as much.

Oh this is a lovely fluffy thread! What a lovely thing to wake up to this morning

I don't think there's much more to add... for me... the real magic is watching people fall in love with Ballroom the way I love it.... and I love the way that they are being taught Ballroom properly - not socially. It's very glamourous and just shows the world how hard dancers work and how clever they have to be to actually do it in the first place.

Well said Peach. I love the show for the dancing first and foremost, the way that some of the contestants fall in love with dance (and sometimes their partners cough !). I love getting a good cup of tea, a few chocolates, my kids on the sofa and SCD turned up loud - an hour and a quarter of bliss on Saturday evening.

*goes into reverie about certain aspects of that particular ITT....*

Peach - totally. Not only do we get to see the celebs falling in love with ballroom, but I for one have fallen for it myself, even though I haven't had the opportunity of lessons yet.
