'Fingers wag as bickering rocks Come Dancing'
Endemoniada
30-10-2006
Quote:
“BBC1’S Strictly Come Dancing was in crisis last night as its dancers demanded crunch talks with the judges over "vote fixing".

Some of the professional dancers have threatened to walk out if they can’t voice their concerns.”

What a load of rubbish! As if anyone of them is going to walk out on a lucrative contract and lose the money and be sued by the BBC! And any potential future earnings from future series. Please!! I wonder if this comes from the usual anonymous source at the BBC, trying to score points over the X Factor in the controversy stakes! Surely no-one will believe "some" of them will walk. I might believe it if a quote is directly attributed to one of these dancers, but not until then.

they only get 17 grand and could prob make more from private lessons and demonstrations

But without the publicity and being on the show, they will lose far more than 17 thousand. The reason they make a lot from cabaret and press and can up their teaching fees is because they are well known. The exposure is worth a vast amount to them. Also, I repeat they will not break a contract, which could cost them very dearly.

but tabloids would also pay bloody well for a story of a dancer who walked out i guess!!! a heck of a lot i bet!

Maybe as a one off, but I suspect they will think more long term than that. A few thousand now for a one day wonder will in no way make up for the long term, and the damage done to their reputations. For those who do cabarets, who is going to contract them to appear if they think nothing of breaking contracts.

Isn't there a saying. 'There's no such thing as bad publicity'

Give it a bit of oomph and someone probably thinks the viewers and voters will flood in.

Quite! Didn't something similar happen with the X Factor last year?? (I don't watch it). I seem to remember some massive row, and one of the judges threatening to walk. Bet he's still there!

I'm more shocked the story's in the Daily Express and they haven't managed to work Princess Diana's death into the story

Sometimes it's not about the money. They work REALLY hard and to see it not being rewarded week after week through biased scoring must make it incredibly frustrating. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few had got together and started to threaten action if their voices weren't heard as they are being treated unfairly. As I said I don't know if it happened, but I do not a lot of them a very angry about it all.

Of course a one week walkout would get over the problem of the "extra week"

(Snigger) Perhaps not, but Dirty Des has probably arranged instead for some lovely pictures of 'exotically costumed' dancers, purely for illustrative purposes.

There's more than that in the paper. It's a whole two page spread (and there's some pictures of Brendan and Claire. Not new ones, though.)

(Yes, I bought it just because it had SCD on the front. Stop it, I'm not obsessed...)

The only reason I haven't bought anything with SCD on the front page in the past couple of days is because I haven't been in a newsagents.

I bought the Sunday Mirror cos it told me that Brendan had got off with Abi Titmuss. How depraved is that?
