Controversial thread....Stop dissing SCD so much! (or cut it down a bit!)

I put this on another thread but feel quite strongly about it...talking with mates today who do not use forums and love SCD, and talking about a few things I had read here.

I had a read on the forum today and was dismayed as a long term lurker, about so many negative threads and comments about SCD.

I like the band and singers, would have supported Brendan more if he had done a better dance, but to argue over not one of his best, that he even admitted, made me a bit fed up, as it made others who had done well look like they didn't deserve it (I don't dislike him BTW) and the fact we know the BBC read these boards, it seems this year more than any other, some people are using it to gripe about how crap the programme is, and changes they want, when there are a lot of people who adore the programme (me and others!) who are happy as it all rounds out in the end, whatever the judges comments.

This is a gripe at the fact there are so many negative comments this year...and I always say, if you don't like it don't watch it! How can they win? I like Mark and Ray, others don't. I like the judges, and take their views with a pinch of salt, others don't.

I don't expect everyone at the BBC to remake the show to suit me? The judges and the format are what have made the show. I have watched since the first series an ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't mean to spout off...but as a long time lurker, the fact the BBC look at these boards seems to give credence to people slagging them off. It feels like we are taking advantage of it?

Last year, from my lurking, people would have been thrilled to have been mentioned, now it seems like a 'lets slag off the show so the BBC notices' board.

We are so lucky in that they even look here...that does not happen with any other reality shows on TV as far as I know?

Not meaning to offend anyone but I am just stating my opinion too. Hope no one gets too peed off!, but I expect to be lambasted And am away for a day or two from tomorrow in case anyone wonders if I have posted and gone.

I would hate SCD to not be on the air anymore because we all moan. Some moans are okay...I just think it seems we are taking it to the max, cos of the ITT show.

Just my opinion.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, Coody and long may it be so for eveyone else too.

I think u make a fair point but the fact people comment on it and have such strong opinions is because they care so deeply about it. There are ways and means of people putting their opinion across and of the posts I have read I've never read anyone criticising unnecessarily or in a particularly harsh way.

It just seems to me that the BBC look at these and take what they want from it but when there is constructive criticism like what is on here they don't listen.

It is just FM's trying to take a bit of ownership of a show they love and want the best for - if we are thinking this how many others are with the show losing favour we may all be deprived!

Thanks Lady Boz.

And I agree minihoy. God forbid that we all bow down and say it is all great...just it seems a bit OTT this year, kind of playing on the fact the BBC read these boards?

I guess I am just saying...don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Yeah I think u r right that people are more likely to post how they feel in the hope that the BBC will take note - I don't think they listen at all, I have tried to pass my comments on through the BBC website, the way they suggest and they fob you off with stuff u already know or is not relevant to what u have asked!

Actually a lot of other shows do look at these message boards. DS is very highly renound. Also I've known some of the lazier journalists in the rags sometimes quote things from here. SCD and ITT are just the only ones to mention it.

The reason why people seem to be complaining a lot is because there are one or two factors of the show that seem to have gone a bit ridiculous this year.

It's not like they are going to stop airing the show because of a few fair criticisms about the show are they?

Is still Monday, btw - I suspect things will have cooled off by the middle of the week and everyone will go back into anticipation mode again (or maybe not given next week's dances )

No - we are the hand that feeds the BBC- it's our license money!Where would they be without us?
But you are welcome to post Coody- I dont think anyone would lambast you for being positive!

I can totally see the OPs pov. I think the problem is some of the criticism has gone totally OTT and it's starting to sound playground like. Brendan isn't the people's champion, the judges aren't all evil. A few comments here have boarded on pantomime and that's just embarrassing to read. Reasoned discussion is interesting. Hysterically getting outraged with the judges/dancers/too much innuendo on a family show sounds just daft.

Thanks guys.

Glad you see where I am coming from. I am not trying to annoy people, this forum is great, but I do think the 'Hey the BBC look at our forum' thing may be foremost in some posts, more so than other years.

And yes JH, DS is looked at by a lot of media types...but this forum gets read out on BBC2 at least twice a week...which doesn't happen a lot.

Anyway...just saw Shappy's thread about the great things of SCD, and had to add to it. I guess it isn't just me then that thinks things are a little bit negative here.

SCD is great, or we would not all be on here, would we!

I feel the need to gripe about the camera work as surely this would be a vast improvement for the viewers if they could sort it out, other than this the show is great, loving every minute. I think most of us just love to chat about anything and everything SCD and some of it good, some of it bad but I certainly don't do it hoping that the comments will be taken on board just to chat to others and get a debate going....

I totally do see where you are coming from... believe me SCD is fantastic. But just because they read the forums it doesn't mean we can't say what we feel could be better.

Like someone else said it's Monday and we don't have any idea about what dances people will be doing yet so there isn't much else to talk about.

Me neither. I have never gone on a forum and started a thread just to start a debate. If that is what you meant by leaving your last sentence in the air, it is not true. To be honest I tend to stay away from controversy.

But I was just reading today and mentioned what I had read to a few people who love the show too, and they and I got a bit cross, at the negativity as we love the show. That's all.

I hate the camerawork and wish it would go to their feet more, I hate the inappropriate music sometimes.

However, I love the show and would rather talk about the good bits than the bad bits and there is just a lot of dissing this year on here as compared to the last 2 years. That's all.

Criticism is fine but I guess, to be truthful I am a bit fed up with the 'Claudia/BBC...read this' threads. No reason apart from they tend to slag off the show more than say why they like it. We all love the show or we wouldn't be here.

Anyway, thanks for listening and lets hope for a good show on Saturday. It makes my week, sad git that I am!

As has been said before, it IS because people do care. If they didn't care, they would just switch over and watch the X Factor.

And it's just frustrating that what used to be a perfect show (apart from Bruce and Tess but I block them out and usually FF them on my Sky Plus )seems to have gone off balance recently. Why tamper with something that was working so well?

Surely that is sacrilege and perhaps even illegal to fast forward the icon that is Brucie

We would be suffering from delusions of grandeur if we, for a moment, thought the BBC would take any notice of the viewer! Look at the chronic argument for abolition of the licence fee.
No, these forums are solely for personal opinions and every one has an opinion and so long as its not libellous they are entitled to post.
You carry on posting whatever you want., contentious or not.

I'm afraid I have to FF Bruce too- or my toes won't uncurl at the end of the programme!
Agree about the camerawork & music- it is such a shame isnt it?
Do complain to the BBC.If enough of do - it may change.

People can find the negative in anything, that's one of the good things in life. We'd still rather keep SCD as it is than lose it or watch X-Factor - the only thing I'd change is the camera work during the dances.

I like to think that on here any dissing is not about SCD in general, BUT abot some aspect of it. Last week it was Georgina getting through and the abuse she had from thingy, her dance partner never can remember his name. THIS week the moans are about the judges marking, the judges comments and them laying into that nice, shy, retiring (?) Brendan Cole.

Yes we moan about wonky camera work and some contiunue to be mistaken to think that Bruce is no good at what he does (poor deluded souls), BUT we still love and adore SCD.

Let us all moan at the demise of Ian Waite from this year's competition or that Len fell from his almost perfect record of judging, doesn't mean we are 'dissing' the whole show.

Heck the fact we moan about the few or in some cases many faults could be seen as genuine love for the show, cos we moan and don't just have a hissy fit and watch X Factor instead.

The camera work and singing are just as bad on the X Factor, anyway.

I am another of the Sky+ FF Bruce brigade too.

Must say, that the swirly camera work didn't do Mark many favours last week - was that the begining of a bald spot ...?

Hey I got turned on when I dared to mention the bald spot, those lusting after Mark can get very vicious if you're not careful.
