Forgive me if this is a Noddy question- but I've got a new Sony Bravia and have just ordered the Sony RDRHXD860S HDD DVD recorder. Both have HDMI connections- but is it worth forking out 50 quid for a cable when I could just use my old scart cable?

the Aldi £40 HDMI DVD player will probably make a return soon.

Buy it at £40, keep the cable and sell it on ebay for about £60!!!!!!
HDMI will make a very small difference. And may result in problems!!!

In the specific case of the 860, (which I own,) I would advise against wasting money on buying a HDMI cable because there is little/no difference between its Scart and HDMI output. (At least on my Panny TH37PX60.)

In comparison my Sony NS76H's HDMI output is clearly superior to its scart output.

I don't get the talk about a "50 quid cable". I'm seeing HDMI-HDMI cables on ebay (Buy it now items) for £0.01 with £8.99 postage- so £9 all in. Where does £50 come from?

I've only looked in my local Dixons and that was the price. If I was going to buy one I'd enter the dark world of e-bay but as I'm not going to bother I'm saved

True, I have the Aldi DVD player with HDMI out into my Plasma & there is very little difference using the HDMI, not a total waste of the £40 cos I wanted a player with Xvid & Divx anyway.

Watching STD DVDs not much difference at all, but im pretty sure HDMI will stand out more when watching HD content.

Goto either RS componets web site or CPC or even Maplins and order a HDMI lead for about £10...!!! NEVER NEVER buy leads from Currys etc etc etc as everybody will tell you "RIP OFF CITY"

When I went to play my 1st DVD on the 28th Oct (6 or 7 weeks after buying it. It blew up and knocked out my HDMI Switch or did my switch knock out the DVD player!) and yes I did test the set.

Anyway Aldi 3 year warrantee gave me the cash back

Think I will spend a bit more next time
