I have just purchased another 9200t and it has come with the latest 10008 firmware & A409 loader

Can anyone please confirm if the fan is set to off in standby mode with the latest firmware
I have placed my ear against the stb but can't hear any fan in standby mode, only when it is turned on.

My other humax with 10006 firmware gives a gentle hum from the fan in standby.

To be sure, shine a torch in or even a piece of paper.

Good Evening TheCringe

Well I tried both a piece of paper near the vents and looked through with a torch, but can't see anything moving in standby mode

Looks like I'll have to remove the lid at a later date to double check.
My son has it set to record 12 programmes and its busy recording already.

Any members using firmware 10008 your input would be welcome please.

Must say a great price and service from Hughes Direct

Northern Soul I am using the 1.00.08 firmware and can confirm that the fan is off in standby mode, must admit that I thought that it was also off in 1.00.06.

My fan has remained working in standby since I upgraded to .08. I've never heard of this before (i.e. it switching off as part of .08 update).

Another suprise I've found with the new loader is that on startup the display reads "Duovision" instead of the ---STING--- message

Interesting to read about the fan switching off with the 10008 update. I'm still on 006. Does anyone know if and when there will be an OTA update of 00008?

Firmware 1.00.08 is not going to be broadcast OTA as far as I am aware, its download only from the Humax website. But on the bright side the next version of the firmware is hopefully going to be available later this month.

From reading some of the posts in this thread it may not be the firmware that is responsible for the fan switching off, it may actually be the latest version of the loader software a 4.09 marcdavis or Barry may be able to confirm is this is correct.

If it is the loader software then for technical reasons this cannot be broadcast OTA and will need to be downloaded from the Humax site and installed via a PC.

I did a check last night and I also couldnt tell for sure if the fan was on in standby right away. I had to wet my finger and place it over the fan vent and was able to to estalish soon enough it was in fact on. I dont think it stops in standby, not on mine anyway.

My suggested test with a piece of paper was to stick it in and see if it goes BRRRRRR, not hold it outside to detect a draught... No doubt then.

I have just tried putting my finger up against it (latest firmware and loader)

The fan is running in standby, but is totally silent

If I hadnt wet my finger and put it against it I would have thought the fan was off in standby

I've just pulled my box out of the unit to double check if I was right, after marcdavis saying about it running silent, switching the box to standby and the fan did did not power down, seems that I was wrong. Apologies to those who I have confused.

No problem Padre m8

I wouldn't like to bet the fan is on or off with O8 its that close if it is on its really really quiet.

I have checked my other Humax with 06 software and it has a gentle hum sound in standby and I can feel vibration on the outside case. With the lastest software on my new humax I can hear the fan Power down and can't detect a breeze even with the wet finger/paper test

imho I think the new software Kicks the fan into a lower/slow speed when in standby mode.

Maybe Barry would be kind enough to check this out with Humax?

I bought a Humax 9200 on Saturday (loader 4.09 software 1.08.00) in stand-by I can't hear a thing, totally silent...... when not in stand-by it is Noisy! If anybody knows what an x-box sounds like when its on, my humax is only slightly quieter.

Is this right?

I think I'll just take it back to Comet

If it sounds like an xbox (especially if you are talking about the 360), then take it back, it shouldnt make that noise

One way to test if the fan is on is to use a piece of toilet paper.
A piece of toilet paper is made out of 2 layers.
If you seperate the layers and use only one of them, the fan should be able to blow enough to move it abit (the fan blows air out of the box) = no need to stick it in the fan blades.

The 100% test is to look through the fan grill (on the back of the unit). If you can see the fan blades, the fan is off.

Theirs no harm in removing the Humax, putting it on a table and plugging the mains in = you do not need anything else.

I would invesigate the fan problem if I was you. If the fan really is switched off in standby, I would contact Humax and ask them if its a new design in new boxs. Because other wise it could be a faulty fan and that will lead to overheating sometime.

One thought about your other box, can you hear the hardrive power down when switching to standby, if not it could be the thinks its still recording bug (the fix is to switch it off at the back and on again).

The fan is at the back where the external connectors are. There is no CPU or power fans of any sort.

Well this morning I disconnected the humax to move it to a new cabinet, so I had the chance to check the fan again from the back with and without a torch.

The fan is definately OFF IN STANDBY mode! I can see the fan blades and they don't move

Only other vents I can see are for what seems to be an air intake for the power supply, no problems of any kind with heat at all in standby.

And does the fan definitely come on when you switch the Hummy on from standby?

Just had a chat on the telephone with a really nice guy from humax Tech Support.

He confirms that the fan will switch to OFF in standby mode, this is not because I have the latest box they have all been designed that way, If the machine is warm it will run for a while until cool and then turn off.
