Auditions?
Endemoniada

Noticed this in a piece by Emma Forbes...

"I also auditioned for Strictly Come Dancing: to prepare, I took ballroom-dancing lessons at the Polish Institute in west London. I had drinks with the producers to convince them I wasn't "too boring". I waited for the call, dying for my moment with Anton du Beke in front of millions, and steeled myself to win if I was picked - you can't be the one that gets voted out in the first week.

So imagine my disappointment to be turned down not once, but three times."

The time of my life

Is it widely known that at least some of the celebs have to audition?

Err..

Auditions?

Probably not "Soap stars" "Daytime Tat TTV" presenters, Well known sports personalities, news readers (haven't we had three already?) and anyone instantly recognisable as being "on telly."

Emma Forbes won't.

Lots of people must want to do SCD, so auditions are inevitable.

I've read elsewhere that the celebs have to audition (might be elsewhere on here though, LOL)

I expect it's more to get an even spread of ability, and possibly also a case of "can you take the criticism", after what we've seen in each series it certainly can't be a "can you dance" test...

That was the BEST article about being smitten by Dancing I've ever read!! Thanks so much for posting!

Poor Emma Forbes.
It's probably more to do with the fact that the people who sign up the celebs don't think she's enough of a *name* anymore, or more likely, the BBC don't employ in another dept. anymore, so she's not *in house* like Zoe Ball was.

They seem to stick to the newsreader, sportspeople, soapstars, hospital drama show, etc etc formula every series.

Give lovely Emma the gig next time BBC!!

BTW Endemoniada you do a great job with posting articles on the forum. Many Thanks, and keep up the great work!!

I think Emma Forbes would have been fantastic.

Who is Emma Forbes? She sounds desperate to get on SCD.

I thought one of the conditions was not to have any ballroom dancing experience: maybe she disqualified herself?

It struck me very forcibly this year that there were no out and out no hopers with two left feet this year. OK some are clearly a lot better than others, but there are no longer any Chris Parkers or Quentin Wilsons. So I've been assuming from the very first week that there must have been some kind of vetting process going on before this series at least. (If the same vetting process was going on for previous series, the mind boggles at what the ones who didn't make it must have been like!)

I also keep wondering what Craig would now score a Chris Parker type dancer if some of the current ones only merit 2s from him. Fair enough, Georgina wasn't the greatest dancer in the world, but she was streets ahead of Chris.

She's a presenter. Started off as cookery lady on Going Live, then presented the first series of Live & Kicking (pre Zoe Ball), and presented Talking Telephone Numbers with Phillip Schofield. She was also a presenter on Heart FM in London for a while.

Good grief, good points: it would be carnage.

That was a great read, thanks for posting the link.

And Jim never fixed it for me to dance with Baryshnikov either
