yeah have to agree with this completely. When I just saw someone say they didnt like Karen it just gets me cross cos I have met her in real life several times and she is a lovely person. I find this kind of thread childish and yeah no need to reply I hear you all say but I just wanted to say that easygoingremi couldnt have put it better

I actually thought this thread was quite interesting and has had fewer arguments than many.

Well to haul it back on track.

None of the couples thrill me except Karen and Mark who are the only ones who make me want to applaud.

Definitely lacking the personalities and sparkle of last series. Picking 2 people at random...oh Matt and Carol. Good dancing but....nothing there for me.

This is difficult. I usually have an inkling as to why I don't like someone, even if it's just plain old chemistry which is the case for me with Louisa. I just don't like her face, but then again I don't expect she'd like mine either!

I feel sorry for poor old Matt Dawson as so many people seem to dislike him. I think if he didn't want to be there he wouldn't have volunteered. My guess is he badly wants to win (don't they all?) but doesn't want to appear to do so. That's why he comes across as aloof and a bit like a fish out of water. He was good on Masterchef and is very likeable I think in a Question of Sport where he almost always loses very graciously!

Sorry for giving my reasons

I don't dislike him - I think he's great. I just can't seem to summon up any enthusiasm for his dancing... much as I'd like to!

Yes.

And Lilia's music choices seem to be coming from another planet but don't start me off on the music.

I like all the dancers....it's Bruno & Arlene I'd replace.

I'd never seen Peter before...now I understand the dog on Corrie being called Schmeichel(I know Iknow!Slow)

It's a pleasure to see people from the world of sport that I dont know anything about- getting to know them over the weeks is great.
But I know about Bruno & Arlene now...and that's enough.

Yes, I think for me it's Matt's coolness and the fact that his dancing seems a little bit wooden - again, apologies for those who don't want to hear reasons, but that's what makes it interesting for me!

I don't dislike him at all.
I think Matt comes at it from a technique and practice point of view - which is what he knows from rugby. If he learns all the steps, and what to do at every point with his arms and it is technically good - then it will be good. I don't think he's got a handle on the tricksy, subjective thing called performance yet.
Mark, with his batting in cricket is a bit looser and more fluid - and used to being the centre of attention for long periods of time (well, hopefully anyway!) when he is batting.

Can you not understand, that if you don't know why you aren't keen on someone you would like others to explain why they like them to try and make you see their point of view?

I'm not keen on Claire, I don't know why, she certainly has done nothing wrong in my eyes, she's intelligent, confident. So please, someone tell me what I'm missing with her? It's not a bashing thread, it's a "show me what you like about them so I can understand".

Sorry for my earlier flippancy (is that a word?)

Anita - I'm not sure if some things can be explained, its all a matter of personal taste. Its a bit like art - you can appreciate the work/technique that went in to a Picasso but it doesn't mean that you'll like/respond to it. And the celebs are probably going to go throug ha lot of changes over the next few weeks; maybe by the end of the series you'll think Claire is amazing!

Either way don't be too hard on yourself - you can't like everyone!

Anyone you're not keen on, but don't know why?

I think if you are not keen on someone ,you have some idea as to why. Karen because of all the hype last year, how she kept Stud Muffin in the contest for at least five weeks longer than he should have been there. Matt Dawson and Mark/ could do with a personality transplant imo. I think the celebs in the comp this year are miles in front of what we had last year.

ah so the voting public had nothing to do with Bill still being in the competition after 6 weeks then, it was all down to Karen???

Sorry, I just felt a little upset that people assume it's a 'bashing' thread, when that certainly wasn't my intention.

No need for others to explain why you should like someone. We are all different and we can't be force to like people and we need to accept this and move on. My point is that this kind of thread always result in people bashing which can be unpleasant.

No one is saying that is your intention, just often what it results in. And often people repeat the same negative things that they've already said on other threads.
It's sad but true.

There's been relatively little bashing or arguing in this thread, though, and some interesting points-of-view.

At least it's fairly democratic - is there a couple who haven't had someone say "I don't like them" in this thread? I've lost track, but most have, unlike many other threads which turn into a bashfest on one unfortunate couple or another.

That's true.
It's actually nice to know that I'm not on my own in not being able to take to a couple and not put my finger on why
I can see all the plus points, and on paper all the boxes are ticked - but in real life - just that 'something' not there.

You've got a good point here. I think this is exactly the way Matt handles the challenge. He will maybe never be a dancer but he's not going to let that beat him! In fact he said in one of the ITT shows that's the way he approaches it - learning the technique then practice, practice, practice - as in rugby. In the meantime he's forgotten he has a personality as well.

Appears we are not allowed to say anything negative or critical without being accused of bashing or picking on a celebrity or professional dancer .

DS isnt a fan site for heavens sake

Bravo, Tissy!!!! This is driving me mad on DS, any opinion expressed slightly the wrong side of idolatry is leapt on as "bashing". We are entitled to not like professionals or celebs, and entitled to express that if we wish, but god help you if you criticise someone's pet!

I suspect that half the forum is made up of the mum's of the dancers, they're that protective!
