I guess what I am still confused about it, if it is the case that all broadcasters do this, why have you mentioned it in numerous threads as if it is something to criticise the BBC about?”

I only criticise them when it affects the quality of some programmes.

The obsession with ratings leads to a general "dumbing down" of many programmes in the attempt to gain extra viewers. SCD contains several elements of this, which I've mentioned on other threads so I won't repeat them.
SCDT2 is partly TOTP2 now, because of this quest to attract a wider audience. The dance content is suffering for it.

The BBC were always a "quality broadcaster" with balanced schedules before the advent of and the proliferation of new digital TV channels. That is no longer the case. BBC1 for me is sometimes almost "unwatchable."
It never was and my tastes in programmes that I like hasn't changed.

With reference to Natasha in the Christmas special. I met Brendan and Natasha in Halifax the week before the show. At that time Brendan was in a panto there and they literally only had a couple of days (and only a few hours in those days) to practise. She said herself that she knew they wouldn't do well - purely through lack of practise.

Thank you Doghouse! I quite often find myself disagreeing with your point of view, but I'm always interested to read it, whether it be critical of the show or not. I'm glad you've made a re-appearance, as I've felt a bit isolated in my 'everyone's entitled to their own opinion' attitude the last week!

I unfortunately never saw the first show. I only saw Natasha and Brendan dance on the Christmas Special. She must have known that she was booked for the Christmas Show so why did she not invest a bit of time and rehearse her routine. I thought it was silly to use the excuse I have not danced for a year when she knew she was committed to dance on the show. I have only got the odd video clip on ITT of them dancing during the competition but they did look good together. I guess everyone fell for the did they or didn't they business regarding their relationship. It was the same with Camilla and James last year. I was convinced they were a couple and got caught up in the "romance" of it all until I was informed on the Forum that she had an Italian boyfriend the whole time she was supposed to be "in love" with James!!!SO it was obvously a way of improving the votes which has turned me off somewhat!!

Don't! I'm trying to keep the "freedom of speech" flag flying too!
